Analysis
#959 ST. LOUIS with Quintana (-) over Colorado with Freeland at 8:40 PM EST Checking in off that embarrassing 16-5 road loss to the Rockies, the Redbirds will get back on track with a solid victory on Wednesday night. St. Louis owns a slim 1.0-game lead over Milwaukee in the NL Central race and the Cardinals can't afford losses to a Colorado squad that rests 14.0-games under the .500 mark. Veteran southpaw Jose Quintana will take the bump for the visitors. With 21 combined starts in the books this season, No. 63 was touched for 41 earned runs and 101 hits in 109.0 innings. Quintana fanned 96 and issued 33 free passes on his way to a 3-5 tally with a respectable 3.39 ERA. Jose is starting to find his groove too. In his last three outings against the Cubs, Phillies, and Marlins, Quintana surrendered one earned run and nine hits in 18.2 frames. That shakes down to a 1-0 mark with a solid 0.48 ERA. Lefty Kyle Freeland with hit the bump for the home team. In 2022, No. 21 has made 21 starts for the Rocks and allowed 61 earned runs and 127 hits in 120.1 innings of work. Freeland struck out 89 and walked 37 on his way to a 7-7 record and a 4.56 ERA. Kyle's numbers at Coors Field haven't been that great either. In the thin air, Freeland has been slammed for 38 earned runs and 74 hits in 61.2 frames. That adds up to a 4-3 record and a soft 5.55 ERA. There are a ton of quality team trends that line up on this diamond investment. St. Louis has won 19 of its last 26 in the second game of a series, 25 of its last 35 facing a left-handed starter, and 29 of its last 41 as a guest fighting a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage less than .500. On the other side of the yard, Colorado has slipped in 48 of its last 71 in this series and 14 of its last 20 overall. With a critical three-game homestand with the Brew Crew on deck, the Redbirds understand the importance of winning their final two games against the dismal Rockies. Take St. Louis with Quintana. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
