Analysis
To the surprise of many, Seton Hall didn’t receive an at-large bid to this year’s NCAA Tournament. Thus, the drive to prove the Selection Committee wrong will continue when it hosts UNLV in the quarterfinals of the National Invitational Tournament on Wednesday. The Pirates, who’ve won seven of their last 10 games, defeated St. Joseph’s and North Texas in the first two rounds, averaging 73.5 points in those contests, a hair above their season average of 72.8 ppg. They gave up just 65 ppg in those games, well below the 70 points they allowed per game during the season. UNLV has also won seven of its last 10, but hasn’t been ‘Runnin’ like its predecessors of late, putting up just 70 ppg over those games, which is below its 73.7 ppg season average. The Rebels have managed to win four of their last five on the road, but three of those victories came against sub-par Fresno State (12-21), Air Force (9-22), and Wyoming (15-17). And lest we forget the Rebels started the tournament last week in New Jersey with a win over Princeton, then returned to Las Vegas to play Boston College on Sunday, and now they're back on the East coast to play in Jersey again. Snubbed or not, Seton Hall wins and covers here at home against the weary Rebels to advance to next week’s tourney semifinals in Indianapolis.
