Analysis
The Phillies are coming into this game with a 42-29 record this season and they have been heating up in their recent games as they are trying to keep pace with the Mets in 1st place of their division. They have won their last 4 straight as well as 5 of their last 6 games and they are coming off of a sweep of the Blue Jays in their last series. Their pitching has been good recently as they have only been averaging 2 runs allowed per game in their last 4 games, and their offense has also been much better as they have scored at least 7 runs in 3 of their last 4 games. They are going up against a Marlins team that is 28-41 this season and they have not been that good at home either at 14-20. They have been better recently as they have won their last 3 straight games and they are coming off of a sweep in their last series, but that was also against a weaker opponent in the Nationals. Sandy Alcantara is starting for the Marlins in this game and he is 3-7 with a 7.14 ERA this season. He has been much better in his last 2 starts as he has only allowed 2 earned runs total between the two, but those were also against two of the worst offenses in the league in the Pirates and the Rockies. Prior to those 2 starts he was awful as he allowed at least 6 runs in his last 2 and at least 4 earned runs in 6 straight starts. He has also allowed at least 4 earned runs in 5 of his 6 road starts this season and that includes a start against the Phillies which he allowed 6 earned runs in just 2 innings. Mick Abel is starting for the Phillies in this game and he is 1-0 with a 2.35 ERA this season. He is coming off of a start which he allowed 3 earned runs in 4 innings, but that was also against a Cubs lineup that is one of the better offenses in the league. Prior to that start, he allowed just 1 earned run total in his other 2 starts this season, pitching at least 5 innings in both of those, and he is going up against a weaker lineup in the Marlins as well. The Phillies will win this game.
