Fired up off a pair of one-run road losses at Seattle, Minnesota will regroup in a hurry and pick a much-needed win here. The Twins are resting in third place in the AL Central a surprising 7.0-games back from the top spot and manager Rocco Baldelli and his boys can't afford losses to an A's bunch that is resting 14.0-games under the .500 mark.
Up on the bump for the visitors will be right-hander Joe Ryan. With 11 outings in the books this season including 10 starts, No. 41 was tripped for only 18 earned runs and 43 hits in 63.0 innings of work. Joe whiffed 72 and walked nine (tremendous control) on his way to a 5-2 record with an elite 2.57 ERA. In a pair of outings against the Athletics (12.1 frames), Ryan has put together a 1-0 mark with a respectable 3.65 ERA.
Countering for the home squad will be righty Luis Severino. So far this year, No. 40 has made 12 starts and been popped for 31 earned runs and 66 hits in 71.2 innings. Luis struck out 54 and walked 22 on his way to a 1-4 tally with a 3.89 ERA. At home, Severino has been at his statistical worst posting a shocking 0-4 record with an elevated 6.20 ERA through seven starts.
There are a few angles that support this power wager. Minnesota has tasted victory in 21 of its last 35 when priced as a favorite. On the other side of the park, the Athletics have fallen in 355 of their last 558 when priced as an underdog, 267 of its last 455 when fighting a non-division foe, and 269 of their last 443 when coming off a blemish.
