Analysis
The Brewers have won seven games in a row, including an impressive sweep in Philadelphia over the weekend. Milwaukee’s offense has posted at least five runs in six of those seven wins and now will head to a favorable hitting ballpark in Cincinnati. Christian Yelich left Sunday’s game with a bruised hand and while the x-rays were negative it seems likely he’ll sit out tonight, with Yelich providing his best at-bats of the season in recent games to erase a tough start to the season. Milwaukee is only 14-18 in road games this season and the bullpen had a full workload yesterday with the team’s top four relievers all pitching. Aaron Civale has made only three starts this season, but he hasn’t been very effective with a 7.16 FIP and a K/9 of just 6.8. Milwaukee has a 4.56 bullpen ERA for the season and the recent splits haven’t been any better as the top tier unit of recent seasons for the Brewers hasn’t been there this season. The bullpen has been a recent sore spot for Cincinnati with some big problems against the Cubs, though the Reds went 3-3 in those two series. Cincinnati has scored at least six runs in six of the past nine games as the offense has been very capable, particularly against right-handers, scoring 5.0 runs per nine this season, and 5.6 runs per nine in the past 10 games. Brady Singer has pitched better than his season ERA of 4.60 suggests as Singer has allowed three or fewer runs in nine of 11 starts but one rough outing in Houston weighs on his season line. Singer has a 3.29 ERA at home despite the challenges of the Great American Ballpark, and he picked up a win in Milwaukee early in the season. The Reds are +30 in overall run differential this season despite being two games below .500, with the pitching staff posting stronger scoring numbers than Milwaukee this season despite sitting behind the Brewers in the NL Central standings. Singer is capable of a quality start to stall Milwaukee’s winning streak at a favorable home price with a clear advantage over Civale’s recent results.
