- The Thunder proved to be a handful for opponents all season, but a sense of urgency should rule the day for the Minnesota Timberwolves when the two get together in Oklahoma City tonight for Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals.
That desperation was missing when Minnesota got tripped up at home on Monday. As several teams have done this postseason, the T-Wolves were a little sluggish defensively out of the gate and found themselves down 37-30 at the end of the opening period. It battled the rest of the way and even held a brief lead before ultimately falling 128-126.
Despite the loss, the Timberwolves covered the spread for a second straight game in this series as a one-possession underdog. They also covered in five of their eight meetings with the Thunder this season, as well as five of their last eight overall road tilts.
Tonight’s contest is critical for Oklahoma City for the simple fact that wrapping this series up early will afford it some much-needed and deserved rest with the NBA Finals set to begin Thursday, June 5.
Basically, all this contest boils down to is Minnesota looking to extend this series long enough to get back to Minneapolis for Game 6 this Friday, while the Thunder are attempting to wrap this series up early, which will afford the team some much-needed, and deserved rest before the NBA Finals begin in just over a week.
With their season on the line, Anthony Edwards, Julius Randle and the rest of the T-Wolves are going to do all they can to force a Game 6 back in Minneapolis. But regardless of who’s on top when the final buzzer sounds, Minnesota covers the near double-digit points.
