- Analysis
- This is a play on the MIAMI MARLINS as part of our MLB Late Afternoon Double Play. Seattle scored six runs in the first innings and never looked back in a 14-0 blowout over Miami after dropping the opener on Friday. The Mariners are 15-12 to sit in a tied for first place in the American League West with Texas in a wide open division with all five teams within 2.5 games. They have been successful with their pitching that is No. 10 in ERA at 3.71 but go with an unknown today as Logan Evans is in line to make his Major League debut. In five starts at Triple A, Evans went 1-1 with a 3.81 ERA to go along with a 21.1% K% and a 3.7% BB% and while he is the top pitching prospect, now it is different. Miami is now 12-14 which is far from horrible coming into a season where nothing was expected. The Marlins offense has been the pleasant surprise as they are No. 4 in baseball with a .256 average and are in a better spot today than having to go up against Logan Gilbert and Luis Castillo the first two games. The pitching has been the liability with a 5.23 ERA which is second worst in the league due to a rotation with four starters having an ERA of 6.14 or worse and the lone outlier has been Max Meyer who comes in with a 2.10 ERA and 1.07 WHIP. His 28.1% K:BB% is No. 5 among 153 starters that have gone at least 10 innings. 10* (977) Miami Marlins
