- Central Michigan will play its first home game of the season tonight when Stony Brook, out of the Colonial Athletic Association, travels to Mount Pleasant as part of the Marquette Challenge. The matchup will mark the very first meeting between the two programs.
Dating back to last season, Central Michigan has won three of its last four games, including a 74-70 victory and cover at South Alabama on Monday to open the season. Five players scored in double figures in the win.
The Chippewas, who finished last season with an 18-14 overall record and in fourth place in the Mid-American Conference with a 12-6 league mark, bring back just three lettermen and one redshirt to the squad, but that includes consensus preseason MAC Player of the Year and consensus preseason First Team All-MAC honoree Anthony Pritchard.
Stony Brook, on the other hand, dropped its first game of the year, losing to Marquette by 40 points earlier this week. The 62 points scored was its lowest point total in its last nine outings, and fell well short of the 73.5 points per game it averaged last season. The 102 points allowed was also more than it gave up in any game last year.
The Seawolves, who wrapped up their 2023-24 campaign with a 20-15 record (10-8 CAA), lost eight members from that squad and have only one returning starter in guard Andre Snoddy, who averaged just 5.0 ppg last year.
With Marquette, George Mason and Minnesota next up on the schedule - all on the road - Central Michigan knows the importance of taking care of home court this early in the season, and it will do just that while against Stony Brook. Take the Chippewas minus the points.
