Analysis
Our 20* MLB Tuesday Night Vegas Jackpot is with Kansas City with the money line versus Oakland at 9:40 pm et. The Kansas City Royals have been one of the surprises in MLB this season. Despite losing two of three games in Los Angeles against the Dodgers over the weekend, they still have a 41-32 record which puts them in second place in the American League Central. The Royals are five games behind Cleveland for first place yet they would hold the second wild-card spot in the American League if the playoffs started today. They have held their last four opponents to less than five runs, and they have won five of their last seven games after holding three straight opponents to four runs or less. They have won twelve of their last seventeen games after holding four straight opponents to four runs or less. They have won five of their last seven games on the road when the oddsmakers install them as a money line favorite at -110 or higher. Alec Marsh gets the start tonight after a brilliant outing where held the New York Yankees to only one hit and no runs in seven innings last Thursday. The right-hander has abandoned the sweeper he relied on last season, yet his more important tweaks have been with his fastball and change-up that he is throwing for more strikes. In eleven of his twelve starts, Marsh has not issued more than two bases on balls, and the lone exception was a start against San Diego when he walked three batters. He is walking 7.0% of opposing hitters which is a big improvement from his walk rate of 11.4% last season. For the year, he has a 5-3 record with a 3.63 era and a 1.09 whip. Kansas City has won nine of his twelve starts. Oakland is on a nine-game losing streak which has led to their record dropping to 26-48. Against right-handed pitchers, the A’s are averaging 3.4 runs per game with a .214 batting average, a .281 on-base percentage, and a .358 slugging percentage. They have only pulled off upsets in nine of their last thirty games when the oddsmakers installed them as a money line underdog up to +150. Oakland last played on Sunday in a doubleheader at Minnesota and they got swept in those two games. We were on the Twins for the nightcap when they pulled out an 8-7 win. The A’s have won nine times in their last forty-two games after a loss by only one run. They have won twice in their last eleven games when on a losing streak of four or more games. After completing their seven-game road trip, they return home to begin a six-game home stand where they have won only eight times in their last twenty-one games when the oddsmakers installed the over/under at 8 or 8.5. Hogan Harris gets the start for them tonight. In 25 1/3 innings from five appearances including three starts, he has a 0-0 record with a 2.49 era and a 1.11 whip. The lefty has been very fortunate to strand 85.5% of the runners that have gotten on base against him. The MLB left-on-base average is around 70%, and Harris had a strand rate of 56% in his 63 innings last season. The batting average for the balls put into play against him is .234 this season after it was .305 last year. The MLB average is in the low .290s from year to year, so that low number is due to rise. Harris had a 7.14 era last year. The Royals have won eight of their last thirteen games against teams using a left-handed starting pitcher. Play Kansas City with the money line. Good luck - Team Del Genio.
