- #903 PHILADELPHIA with Wheeler (-) over Cincinnati with Martinez at 1:10 PM EST
In a bad mood off a pair of blemishes to the Big Red Machine, the Phillies will get back on track with a solid performance here. Philadelphia is already 3.0-games back in the NL East division behind Atlanta and manager Rob Thomson will make sure his players grab this dub.
On the bump for the visitors will be veteran righty Zack Wheeler. With five starts in the bank this season, No. 45 has been nicked for only eight earned runs and 21 hits in 31.1 innings of work. Zack struck out 38 and issued seven walks on his way to a 1-3 tally with a respectable 2.30 ERA. Back on April 3rd, Wheeler faced Cincy at home and surrendered one earned runs and three hits in 6.0 frames. Even though ZW fanned 10, he suffered the loss in the Reds 7-5 upset victory.
Countering for the home team will be right-hander Nick Martinez. With four appearances in the books this season including two starts, No. 28 was crunched for nine earned runs and 19 hits in 17.0 innings. Nick fanned 14 and issued two free passes on his way to an 0-0 tally with a soft 4.76 ERA. Overall, with seven years in the MLB, Martinez has hit the hill 202 times (89 in the role of a starter) and was clocked for 312 earned runs and 668 hits in 649.0 frames. That shakes down to a 27-38 tally with a 4.33 ERA.
On a technical note, Philadelphia has owned right-handers this season posting a 10-4 record. Combine that with the fact that the Phillies haven't dropped three straight all season long and you have all the support needed for this Best Bet. Take Philadelphia with Wheeler. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
