- The deep lineup for the Orioles is scoring six runs per nine vs. left-handers while batting .267. Reid Detmers is 3-0 in four starts with a 1.19 ERA for an amazing start, but this is still a 9-13 Angeles team facing a 14-7 Orioles team with these teams already 46 runs apart in net scoring. The Angels are at home tonight but without an off day after four straight losses concluding a 10-game road trip. Baltimore won two of three in the opening series with Los Angeles, outscoring the Angels 25-11. Albert Suarez is coming off two successful seasons in the KBO and he was sharp in in his 2024 debut at the MLB level, his first MLB outing since 2017. He allowed just three hits while getting 17 outs and should be a capable option to keep the Orioles in this game. Baltimore’s bullpen hit a rough patch in a few recent games, but the Orioles have won six of the past seven games and needed minimal bullpen support yesterday. Baltimore did use six relievers on Saturday but none for more than 15 pitches. Baltimore has proven it can hit with anyone in MLB as even if the pitching plan for the Orioles is less than ideal, the lineup should put a dent in the great start to the season for Detmers. A former 1st round pick, Detmers has the talent to be a front-line starter, but walks have been an issue in his career, and he has been fortunate to not allow a home run so far this season, a rarity given a career groundball rate of only 37 percent. Detmers walked three Orioles in five innings in March and he has faced a struggling Boston lineup in more than half of his innings this season. By season’s end these teams are likely to have drifted even further apart in the standings as this is a rare price on likely one of the top teams in baseball.
