Analysis
Since opening the season 4-8 and hitting .226, the San Francisco Giants have alternated their last seven games, winning four and losing three. But the important thing to note is they're hitting .278 in that span and slugging .440. The Giants have belted seven home runs, and have 23 extra basehits - 34.3% of their basehits. Their pitching has looked tremendously better, too, improving from a whopping 5.42 in the first 12 games, to 3.60 over their last seven. Which brings us to San Francisco starter Logan Webb, who is 5-3 with a 2.80 ERA in 10 career starts against the Arizona Diamondbacks. That includes a 2-1 showing and 3.00 ERA in four starts last season. After the Giants lost his first two starts of this season, they're 2-0 in his last two, during which he's 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA. He'll outduel Arizona starter Ryne Nelson, who I'm not sure will last the first half before being reassigned to Triple-A ball. Nelson has big-league stuff, but he's regressed since his MLB debut on Sept. 5, 2022. In three starts in 2022, Nelson was 1-1 with a stifling 1.47 ERA. Last year he opened the season going 1-6 in his first seven starts with a 6.00 ERA. Now he's opened this season 1-2 with a 5.27 ERA. To his credit, he is 1-0 in three career starts against the Giants, but he also has a 3.44 ERA against them. I'm laying the run line in this one, as the Giants should chase Nelson early, and will ride Webb's arm to victory. Also, the Giants are 3-0 in their last three meetings in San Francisco, your 100% edge.
