- #644 MARQUETTE (-) over NC State at 7:09 PM EST
On a blistering 7-0 SU and 6-1 ATS combined run over the ACC and NCAA Tournament, NC State will finally meet its match when it battles Marquette in the Sweet 16 on Friday evening. The Golden Eagles enter this contest off a pair of solid Big Dance wins over the Hilltoppers and Buffaloes and they are in prime position to knock off this overachieving Wolfpack squad.
After watching both No. 2 seeds (Arizona and Iowa State) fall yesterday, head coach Shaka Smart will make sure his troops pay attention to detail in this battle. Since the start of the 2022-23 season, Marquette has been in a zone inking a profitable 56-16 SU and 43-29 ATS record in its last 72 games. In this run checking in off a pointspread loss, the Golden Eagles soar to an outstanding 23-4 SU and 19-8 ATS. Equally impressive, since 2005, NCAA Tournament teams in the Sweet 16 that are facing a foe that owns a team won/loss percentage less than .650 hold a respectable 15-3 SU and 12-6 ATS record including an elite 11-3 SU and ATS provided they are not laying double digits.
NC State is locked into one of its worst wagering roles, too. When hitting the hardwood with momentum off two or more straight up wins, the Wolfpack hold a rough 55-78-6 ATS record provided they are fighting a foe that arrives with steam off two or more straight up victories. If both teams battled a non-conference foe last, head coach Kevin Keatts and his crew fall to an ugly 29-48-2 ATS. Also, in the Big Dance, No. 11 seeds have struggled against the No. 2 seed posting a rough 1-11 SU and 4-7-1 ATS mark including a hideous 1-7 SU and 1-6-1 ATS provided they are priced as an underdog of +7.5 or less. That spells trouble for the Wolfpack.
Coach Keatts and his kids have enjoyed a tremendous run in the ACC and NCAA Tournament. However, the Golden Eagles are the real deal and they're not about to take the Pack lightly. Take Marquette. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
