- #923 TEXAS with Eovaldi (+) over Seattle with Woo at 10:10 PM EST
In a bad mood off last night's 3-2 road loss to the M's and with their advantage in the AL West resting at 2.0-games over the 'Stros, the Rangers will bounce back with a huge division win under the Friday night lights. Seattle enters this contest off a walk-off win over Texas last night and this is going to be a difficult encore for manager Scott Servais and his players.
Veteran right-hander Nathan Eovaldi will take the mound for the visitors. In his last three trips to the mound against the Mariners, Red Sox, and Blue Jays, No. 17 was tripped for 10 earned runs and 13 hits in 13.1 innings of work. Nathan struck out 12 and walked eight on his way to a 1-0 record with a rough 6.75 ERA. Thankfully, with 12 starts in the books, Eovaldi has been a force on the road surrendering 24 earned runs and 60 hits in 75.0 frames. That's good enough for a 6-1 mark with an elite 2.88 ERA.
Young righty Bryan Woo will toe the rubber for the home team. Lined up against the Rangers, A's, and Angels in his last three outings, No. 33 was clipped for six earned runs and 12 hits in 14.0 innings. Bryan whiffed 20 and walked six on his way to a 2-1 tally with a 3.86 ERA. However, since the All-Star break, Woo has made 10 starts and shown some fatigue surrendering 27 earned runs and 45 hits in 49.1 frames. After the math, that equates to a 3-4 record with a 4.93 ERA.
There is one glaring angle that backs this Best Bet, and it demands attention. When matched up against an opponent that owns a team won/loss percentage greater than .500, Seattle has slipped in 46 of its last 79 games.
The Rangers know if they win the division, they'll earn a bye in the AL Division Series. Manager Bruce Bochy is one of the best and he will have his squad ready to go here. Take Texas with Eovaldi. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
