- The Los Angeles Sparks were impressive in turning back a short deficit in Phoenix last night, and pulling away for a 99-93 overtime win over the Mercury.
The Sparks are 2-0 vs. the Mercury and 0-2 vs. the Aces. I'd say the losses have been invaluable, and when playing inferior competition, you're going to see Los Angeles step up with this revamped roster from top to bottom.
Curt Miller is one of the smartest coaches in the league, and he has instilled plenty of confidence into a roster that was filled with turmoil last season.
Four players average double figures for the Sparks, led by Nneka Ogwumike, who is scoring 18.0 points per game. Last night it was about Lexie Brown, and I can tell you when she heats up, she will duplicate games and go on multiple-game runs.
Lexie scored 14 and 15 points in the first two games. After being held to just three last Saturday in Las Vegas, she went off last night for 26 on 11 of 16 shooting.
Tonight the Sparks host the winless Seattle Storm, who have been competitive, but will struggle to find any sort of rhythm in their first road game of the season, and only one over their first seven games of the season.
Lay the short chalk with Los Angeles.
