You can catch our preview for that game here. The Dodgers come in with a seven-game winning streak and enter Friday 2.5 games back of the San Francisco Giants for first place in the National League West. They’re likely going to be the most dominant wild card team ever at this rate. Los Angeles is 9.5 games up as the first wild card.Game 1 resulted in a 4-1 victory for the Dodgers on Thursday night by way of seven -- yes, seven -- relievers holding the New York offense to six hits. Trea Turner went 2-for-4 with an RBI. The All-Star second baseman has batted .304 in 46 at-bats since being traded from the Washington Nationals at the trade deadline.Speaking of trade acquisitions from the Nation’s Capital, the Dodgers will send Max Scherzer to the mound. This will be Scherzer’s fourth start with the Dodgers; he’s won two of three (2-0) to go with a 2.20 ERA. Scherzer is the impromptu ace with Clayton Kershaw continuing to improve from his forearm injury, and now dealing with Julio Urias’ calf injury. The fact they’re 30 games above .500 says a lot to where they are with injuries piling up.The Mets are not fully out of the woods yet when it comes to a playoff run. Despite losing six of their last 10, the Mets are still within five games back of the Atlanta Braves for first in the National League East. But the problem remains that the Mets have continued to struggle at the plate. This time, it was the top of the order that did its job on Thursday; Pete Alonso, Michael Conforto and J.D. Davis combined for four of those hits. Even as somewhat solid of a solid start as Taijuan Walker gave them (6 innings and four earned runs), it’s not enough for that push the Mets need to get to October. The Mets offense needs to pick up now that Javier Baez is on the IL, but it might be too little, too late. New York’s inability to string consistency has been their problem like we’ve talked about the past few weeks.Rich Hill is expected to take the mound for New York.Betting trendsThe Mets are 22-26 against teams with winning records and 7-14 in the second half.New York’s 12-23 when facing a National League team that has a collective batting average of .255 or worse during the second half of the season. The Dodgers have put together a 39-20 mark against teams with a losing record.Teams are 7-2 when Scherzer starts against a team with a losing record (+3.9). PredictionThe talent trumps all. And we expect Scherzer to have another big outing with his new team. It's hard to bet against Scherzer unless the bats cool off. Dodgers win 6-1. The Bronx Bombers enter Friday on a seven-game winning streak after a 7-5 win in the series opener on Thursday. The Yankees got an added boost with the return of Anthony Rizzo off the COVID list. While Rizzo’s been out, they’ve gotten timely offensive contributions from Luke Voit, who hit a two-run double on Thursday and is now in the leadoff spot as the designated hitter. And in an attempt to keep their strong stretch going, the Yankees will turn to Gerrit Cole in Game 3. Cole went 5.2 innings and allowed only one earned run on Aug. 16, his first start since coming off the COVID list. Cole’s ERA is coming down toward 3.04, and the more he continues to pitch like this, the better the Yankees will be in a good position come playoff time. The Yankees are five games back of the Tampa Bay Rays for first place in the AL East, and have pulled 1.5 games ahead of the Boston Red Sox in the division after sweeping them this week. They lead the Oakland Athletics by one game for the top AL Wild Card spot. The Twins are playing for pride and have done well doing so. They’ve won their last four series, including taking two of three from the Cleveland Indians at home this week. That run may come to an end this weekend, but weirder things have happened.Kenta Maeda is expected to start for Minnesota.Betting trendsThe Yankees are 10-10 as a favorite when Cole starts, with the under being 11-9.New York is 18-26 (-18.4) in day games, with the under being another hefty number (27-16).The over is 36-19 during Twins road games.PredictionWhile respectable what the Twins have done the last couple of weeks, including what they did against the Astros, but the Yankees are just on a roll right now. Cole should have no problem with this lineup.Don't miss our champion handicappers' free picks and expert baseball picks today.  And if you enjoyed these Minnesota Twins - New York Yankees predictions, be sure to drop by every day for our daily MLB projections and previews.

Kansas City Royals vs. Chicago Cubs: Preview, Prediction & Odds -- Aug. 21, 2021

Royals - Cubs previewThe Kansas City Royals and the Chicago Cubs will continue their three-game series in Wrigley Field on Saturday. The Cubs have hit a low point since entering Phase: Windy City Rebuild, going through a 12-game losing streak before shockingly winning two of three against the Cincinnati Reds this week to make it seem like the world isn’t completely falling apart in Chicago.Kansas City took the first game on Friday afternoon 6-2 by way of two solo home runs from All-Star catcher Salvador Perez. The former World Series champion continued his power renaissance from the plate, totaling to 32 homers on the season.Andrew Benintendi also got in the RBIs parade by hitting a solo home run on a 2-for-4 day to give the Royals a win for the fourth time in five games. It was a solid day for the Royals’ offense by way of the long ball.Right-hander Brad Keller threw 6 innings of four-hit ball and struck out eight. Kris Bubic will get his turn Saturday for Kansas City. The Royals aren’t going to make any waves in the American League Central, but Friday was a great start to get trending in the right direction. Even though it was only four months ago, there was a time the Royals were shocking the baseball world. Even in this weird instance of being in last place, there’s still some talent on this roster. They at least showed that against the lowly Cubs.Which makes that unfortunate for Chicago considering the Cubs should be on such a high from those back-to-back wins against the Reds. Zach Davies went six innings and struck out five, but the homers from Perez and Benintendi shut the door. Davies fell to 6-10 on the season with an ERA that has now shocked over to 5.04.The Cubs got a home run from third baseman Patrick Wisdom, who gave them a 1-0 lead in the second period. Wisdom has become the new man at the hot corner since the Cubs traded Kris Bryant, and is one dinger from his first career 20-homer season. There’s still a month and some change to go for Cubs fans to deal with this long rebuild, knowing Anthony Rizzo and Javier Baez are no longer in town. Unfortunately it’s not going to get any better. Right-hander Keegan Thompson will get the start Saturday.Betting trendsKansas City is 17-14 (-1) as a favorite. The Royals are 3-0 this season when Bubic starts when the moneyline is at least -100 in their favor..The Cubs are 24-15 at that same line.PredictionThe reality is we haven’t seen enough from the Cubs to believe they can do this again. It’s August; they are who we thought they were. Kansas City may not have another power game like Friday, but it’ll be enough. Royals win 7-3. Don't miss our champion handicappers' free picks and expert baseball picks today.  And if you enjoyed these Kansas City Royals - Chicago Cubs predictions, be sure to drop by every day for our daily MLB projections and previews.

They beat the Tigers on Thursday 13-10 (total shootout), but on Wednesday they beat them 3-1 (let’s watch the grass grow)... up and down the schedule the only consistency you see is average play.  Ownership of the Angels will really bring shame on baseball if they don’t soon start spending over the cap.  Few teams in history have had two players at once as good as Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani at the same time.  If they keep plodding along content to have bobblehead promotions and take their cut of TV revenue… it’ll be a total waste of a great moment in time.  They (Angels ownership) should be booed at every chance. Cleveland is 4-6 over their last ten games with 4 Unders and 6 Overs (no they don’t match the wins and losses).  They went 1-2 against the Minnesota Twins, 2-1 against the Detroit Tigers, got swept by the Oakland A’s 3-0, and beat the Cincinnati Reds 1-0.  A team that goes 3-3 in six games against a combo of the Twins and Tigers is just a team spinning their wheels until it’s all over. Statistical Comparison:The Angels are 6th in batting average .252, 13th in runs scored 563, 12th in home runs 153… why such an average record?  Shohei Ohtani is doing most of it.  That guy needs to be surrounded by a quality lineup to see where he can take you. The Angels are 23rd in team ERA 4.66, 9th in strikeouts 1132, 15th (average)  in home runs given up147.  Why such bad ERA numbers… because Shohei Ohtani is doing most of the good stuff.  They really ought to get that kid some Aces to play alongside.  Big Al’s MLB ELITE INFO WINNER IS ON A 22-11 RUN.  Get Al’ Saturday MLB Best Bets at our Shop Picks page, where you can find all of today's entire Major League Baseball premium pick predictions.  Get the info you need to win the bets you place!! Angels Vs Indians Game Preview: The Angels starting pitcher will be lefty Reid Detmers 1-2, 7.04 ERA, 13 strikeouts in 15 innings of work, 1.43 WHIP.   Reid made his MLB debut Aug 1st (just 20 days ago) and the 22 year old is still very green.  The 7.04 ERA isn’t concerning nor is the losing record.  He is getting his feet wet while other Angels are nursing sore parts like knee, ankle, pride….  and when the 2020 1st round pick has gotten to see how good even the average major league hitter is… he’ll be shipped back down to work on what he needs to work on.  The Cleveland Indians pitcher is TBD… TO. BE. DECIDED.  He’s rarely an Ace.  This is really a matchup of divisions going different directions.  The Angels are in 4th place with a winning record slightly above .500 in the West.  The Indians are in second place with a losing record in the Central.  The Angels have the advantage here because not only are they doing better but they are doing it against harder teams to beat.  The Indians are worse than even their losing record implies. Notable quotes: "It's like watching Fabio hit a triple," -Angels manager Joe Maddon said about Brandon Marsh running the bases. Brandon hit 2 triples in their 13-10 win over Detroit. "Once I'm given the opportunity to come back up here, make the most of it...Don't really think about when I'm going down, when I'm coming back up again. Just take it a day at a time playing up here and just play." -Daniel Johnson, a confused young player who hit a two run homer to help the Indians beat the Twins on Tuesday night. McFARLAND (2.25)  Managers:Pittsburgh:  Derek Shelton (2nd season)St Louis:  Mike Shildt (4th season)  Recent Form:The Pittsburgh Pirates come into this game having an awful season this year. They are currently on a five-game losing skid and have lost 13 of their last 14. They have been really bad in road games this season too. They have lost their last 8 straight on the road and have lost 10 of their last 11 there as well. The St. Louis Cardinals have been having a much better season than the Pirates have. The Cardinals have won 7 of their last 9 games. After winning 6 in a row they went on a 2 game losing streak but they cracked that with a win on Thursday getting back on track. They have not been doing too well at home recently though, they have just 3 of their last 6 games. Friday night's game is still to be played to see who the winners are between these two.  Series History:The St. Louis Cardinals have a big advantage over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the series history this season. The Cardinals have a winning record of  9-3 against the Pirates this year. After a 5-0 start against them, they stumbled a bit going 1-3 against them in the four-game series after that. They got back on track though, with a 3-0 sweep of the Pirates in the last series they played them in just over a week ago. They have been better against them on the road as well as the Cardinals are 3-3 in home games against the Pirates this season.  Statistical Comparison:The Pittsburgh Pirates come into this game as one of the worst teams in the MLB when it comes to hitting. They are ranked 26th in the league for batting average (.233), 30th in the league for RBI (407), 25th in the league for hits (931), and they are ranked 24th in the league for OBP (.303). They have been having just as bad a year on the pitching side as they find themselves in the bottom 10 of the MLB. They are ranked 28th in the league for ERA (5.09), 30th in the league for saves (15), 23rd in the league for strikeouts (983), and they are ranked 27th in the league for WHIP (1.41). The St. Louis Cardinals have not been any better in the hitting department as they rank in the bottom 10 of the MLB as well. They are ranked 20th in the league for batting average (.237), 24th in the league for RBI (474), 24th in the league for hits (941), and they are ranked 21st in the league for OBP (.309). They have had an alright year when it comes to pitching this season as they are ranked more as a middle of the pack team in the MLB. They are ranked 14th in the league for ERA (4.09), 7th in the league for saves (33), 30th in the league for strikeouts (919), and they are ranked 19th in the league for WHIP (1.33).  Do not miss out on expert handicapper analysis! Larry Ness is 6-1 on MLB over/under plays in the month of August. Make sure you check out his picks and many more from the expert handicappers featured in the Shop Picks section.  Pirates vs Cardinals Game Preview:The Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals will be starting a three-game series on Friday night. The Pirates got plastered by the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-0 in their last outing on Wednesday night, getting Thursday off to recollect themselves. Meanwhile, the Cardinals played onThursday getting a big 8-4 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Friday will feature this National League Central battle between Mitch Keller and Miles Mikolas on the mound. Dillon Peters will be the starting pitcher for the Pirates on Saturday night. He is 0-1 this season with a 1.93 ERA. Peters has only played in the 1 game this season and he was credited with the loss in it. He pitched a little over 4 innings in that one allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, on 5 hits. He did not pitch awful in that game but, with just the one start under his belt this season it is tough to know what you are going to get out of him on top of the hill this game. The Pirates are currently in a terrible slump right now so anything that looks to be even slightly on the good side is an upgrade from their current situation. J.A. Happ will be throwing the first pitch on Saturday for the Cardinals. He is 7-6 this season with a 6.03 ERA. Happ was recently acquired from the Twins and he did not pitch well in his final games for them. He averaged over 5 earned runs allowed per game in his last 5 starts for the Twins. He has turned the page though, since coming to the Cardinals he has been awarded with 2 wins, the team winning 2 of the 3 games he played in. He did not allow more than 2 earned runs in each of those 3 games, including a shutout of the Royals through 5 innings in his last start. Happ has faced the Pirates twice this season, once as a Twin and once as a Cardinal just over a week ago. He is 2-0 against them and has only allowed 1 ER total between those 2 games.    Notable quotes:"When you get behind, and we don't score a lot of runs anyway, it gets very frustrating. Because it takes us out of our ability to be aggressive." - Derek Shelton’s thoughts on his team's mindset this season after losing 9-0 to the Dodgers on Wednesday. "They threw their best arms at us. Honestly that's what we should expect being the Cardinals, anyway. We're in the hunt. We're obviously looking up on the leaderboard there right now, but it's a day-by-day thing." - Tyler O’Neill after a big win against division rival Brewers as he hit a homerun to help the Cardinals go on to victory.  Trends:Pittsburgh: 23-41 for +0.2 units when playing as a +150 or higher underdog this season.St Louis: 35-21 for +8.4 units when playing as a -110 or higher underdog this season.  Pirates Cardinals Prediction:  Our MLB Pick for Saturday, August 21, 2021 (7:15pm ET start time) is Cardinals 4 Pirates 2.Don't miss our champion handicappers free picks and expert baseball picks today.  And if you enjoyed this Pittsburgh Pirates St. Louis Cardinals prediction, be sure to drop by every day for our daily MLB projections and previews.

I only recognize a couple things and those I don’t want. The Boston Red Sox are 4-6 over their last ten.  Logging 5 Unders and 5 Overs.  If you  followed the Red Sox as recently as July, you thought they had 2nd place in the AL East standings wrapped up with a chance to challenge the Tampa Bay Rays for first place… just a month later the Sox have swooned.  The New York Yankees took from them a head to head sweep and the Red Sox fell to third place in the division.  The Toronto Blue Jays are just behind them and surging.  If it weren’t for the Baltimore Orioles, the Sox would have come out of this run of divisional opponents completely without Hope. Statistical Comparison: The Rangers are 29th in team batting average .223, 29th in runs scored, and 24th in Home Runs 132.  Their home park must be one of those friendly home run hitting spots?... Just kidding, 132 homers is still really bad. The Rangers Pitchers are 25th in team ERA 4.71, 29th in strikeouts 942,... they are 6th in the league in Home Runs given up 172, the sixth most. The pitchers aren’t good. The Red Sox are 3rd in batting average .259, 6th in runs scored 611, and 9th in home runs 156.  There are quality batters throughout the lineup.  The Red Sox pitchers are where they drop off a little bit 16th in ERA 4.30 (average), 7th in strikeouts 1147, and 24th in home runs given up 131.  If the Red Sox could find another high quality starter to go with Nathan Eovaldi… they wouldn’t be on the outside looking in.  They have the offense, need to bolster this defense.   Will Rogers has been DOMINANT the past month with his MLB Selections.  Get Will’s MLB Best Bets at our Shop Picks page, and check back everyday for all our professional handicappers predictions and picks.  Let us give you the advantage!   Rangers vs Red Sox Game Preview: The Rex Sox are plummeting this August. They can thank the schedule makers that the Rangers are here to give them a soft place to land and gather their bearings.  From the first pitch of most Ranger games it becomes readily apparent that you’ll only need a little offense to beat them.  Nobody will post much about the Rangers on Facebook and Twitter..Groupies won’t be hounding the local hotels for the Rangers on Friday, and they won’t be there to see them off Sunday.  The three games in between will be like medicine for the ailing Red Sox. Righty Jordan Lyles is the projected starting pitcher for the Rangers, 5-10, 5.55 ERA, 105 strikeouts in 131 inning pitched, 1.48 WHIP.  Jordan is 49-76 since his MLB debut in 2011.  The 6’5 230lb 30 year old seems more suited as a middle reliever, or even a junior college coach, but then at the end of the season with nothing left to play for you might as well burn this arm. Lefty Eduardo Rodriguez 9-6, 4.97 ERA, 145 strikeouts in 116 innings pitched 1.36 WHIP.  Eduardo has solid career stats (they are slightly down this year) since making his debut in 2015.  The 28 year old should be able to handle the Rangers lineup, like most everyone else has. Notable quotes: "It's very quiet in the clubhouse, and understandably so,...It's not a good feeling." -Red Sox manager Alex Cora about being swept by rival Yankees and jumped in the standings. "A roller coaster of emotions,...I was really proud of us for fighting back. Obviously, we didn't play a very good game up to that point. Early on I thought, ‘Wow, this is one of our worst games.' And somehow we were still in the game and fought back in the ninth inning." -Rangers manager Chris Woodward said about a close loss to the Seattle Mariners…. As he thumbed through a book on How to Write Resumes.  Rangers vs Red Sox Prediction:   Our MLB Pick for Saturday, August 21st, 2021 game is Red Sox 6 Rangers 1 You would get a big return if you bet on the Rangers with the moneyline… but their odds of winning this one is very low.  Take the Sox.   Don't miss our champion handicappers free picks and expert baseball picks today.  And if you enjoyed this Team1 Texas Rangers vs Boston Red Sox prediction, be sure to drop by every day for our daily MLB projections and previews.

The Phillies were leading the National League East only a few weeks ago, while the Padres were hanging around long enough to stay in the National League West race. If anything, the Padres were more than snug into that second NL Wild Card spot. But the tables have turned greatly, both out of favor for Philadelphia and San Diego. The Phillies have lost four in a row and are coming off being swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks this week. And if you’re wondering, those three wins pushed Arizona out of the worst record in the major leagues. Not only did the Phillies get swept, they scored two runs in each of the three losses. Zack Wheeler pitched well through six innings and only allowed one run, but then got blasted for five runs in the seventh and was finished after 6.2 IP in the 6-2 loss on Thursday for the sweep. The Phillies bullpen did its job through this series allowing one combined run. The starters stayed in for too long and fell victim to the timely D-Backs.Philadelphia has lost seven of nine since the seven-game winning streak that vaulted the Phillies into first place. Since then, the Atlanta Braves have leapfrogged them with a six-game winning streak and lead the Phillies by four games. Matt Moore is expected to be the starting pitcher for the Phillies. It hasn’t been any better for the Padres over the last month and some change. On July 6, the Padres were only 3.5 games behind the San Francisco Giants for first place in the National League West. Now, San Diego has to hope it makes the playoffs at all.The Padres have fallen 8.5 games out of the standings since July 6 and now trail the Giants by 12 games in the division. They’ve hung on to the second wild card spot for the majority of that time, but even that’s now in jeopardy. The Cincinnati Reds are only one game back of the Padres, and they just won the first matchup in a four-game series against the Miami Marlins on Thursday.San Diego was hoping the return of Fernando Tatis Jr. would propel them for one more push, but it’s been a mess. The Padres have lost seven of eight; the only win was Tatis Jr.’s return to the lineup when he hit two home runs. San Diego followed that by getting swept by the Colorado Rockies. The last time the Padres won consecutive games in a row, they were against the Diamondbacks and Marlins. The Padres signed Jake Arrieta to bolster their already-stout rotation, but it didn’t help Wednesday when San Diego lost 7-5 in the former Cy Young winner’s debut. He left after 3.1 IP with a hamstring injury, so that’s going well. Wil Myers had three RBI in the loss.San Diego will turn to its top pitcher right now, Blake Snell, to hopefully right the ship again. The former Cy Young winner is 6-4 in 22 starts with a 4.80 ERA in his first season with the Padres. He’s won his last three starts but has given up 15 runs in his past five overall. He’s had a bounce-back August (1.29 WHIP, 3 ER) after getting shelled for seven earned runs July 28 against Oakland.Betting trendsThe Phillies are 7-2 in Moore’s starts (+7.9) while an underdog  with the over cashing six of eight times. In a five-game span of batting .200 or worse, the Phillies are 2-7 (-8).Following a loss of four or more runs, the Phillies are 19-8 (+11.4).As a home favorite, the Padres are 38-21 (-0.5) and 40-24 at home overall.PredictionWhich team do you trust to overcome their struggles? When in doubt, take the home team and hope they regain their bats after a long road trip. It’s just too unknown with the Phillies to trust them. Padres win 8-5. The Brewers took two of three against the St. Louis Cardinals, but lost the finale 8-4 on Thursday.Brandon Woodruff pitched well through the first four innings and worked with a 4-1 lead heading to the bottom of the fifth. The Cardinals plated five runs in the home half of the frame off back-to-back home runs from Tyler O’Neill and Lars Nootbaar. The top part of Milwaukee’s rotation took a hit this week with ace Freddy Peralta going on the 10-day IL with right shoulder inflammation. He only lasted two-plus innings in his start on Wednesday in St. Louis.Brett Anderson will get the start for Milwaukee. The left-hander is 4-6 with a 4.09 ERA in 18 starts. He won his last three appearances on the mound before losing Aug. 14 against the Pittsburgh Pirates where he gave up six runs in 3.1 innings.Milwaukee will welcome a Nationals team that’s coming off a shocking two-game series sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays after losing their previous seven games. The Nationals withstood a seventh-inning rally from Toronto with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, and won the second game 8-5 on Thursday in D.C.Washington star Juan Soto went 1-for-2 with a 3-run home run and was walked three times. Josh Bell also had three RBIs with a three-run homer in the seventh that gave the Nationals back the lead. The bullpen squandered Josiah Gray’s first potential win, going six strong innings, only 2 ER and 1 BB. For as much as it’s been maligned as of late, Washington’s offense picked up these past two games with putting 20 runs on Toronto. The Nationals hope to get a bounce-back effort from left-hander Patrick Corbin after giving up six runs in 4.2 IP against the Braves almost a week ago. Corbin fell to 6-12 with a 6.04 ERA in 23 starts, with a WHIP of 1.44. Milwaukee’s lineup will be a tough out on the road for the struggling Corbin. His accuracy has already been an issue with a bulk of his pitches landing in the bottom left corner away from the plate.Life has proven to be tough without Max Scherzer, but the bottom line is that’s what the Nationals signed up for when they started this rebuild. They should’ve put a disclaimer that this wasn’t for entertainment purposes.Betting trendsWhile the Nationals and Corbin have struggled, three of their wins this season have come as an underdog of +150 or more. The over has cashed all seven times. In their next game following a run of five or more straight road games, the Brewers are 16-4 (+11.4).PredictionThe Brewers are in a race with the San Francisco Giants for the league’s top record and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. They’ll surely be energized coming home after a long, successful road trip. It’s not a fun money line pick, but expect the Nationals to keep it competitive. Brewers win, 9-6. They have won their last 3 games straight and have won 6 of their last 7. Those 7 games were all at home though, they will be on the road for this one where their luck has not been as good. The Diamondbacks have lost their last 4 games on the road. They have been averaging over 5 runs scored per game in their last 7 but they only had 1 game where they scored more than 2 runs in their last 4 road games. They are facing a Colorado Rockies team that is also red hot right now coming off of a three-game series sweep of the San Diego Padres. The Rockies have been great at home currently on a 7 game win streak there. In their last 3 games at home, they scored at least 6 runs in each game.  Series History:The Colorado Rockies have the slight advantage here in the series history as they are 7-6 against the Diamondbacks this season. The Diamondbacks have only won 2 of their last 6 encounters with the Rockies. The Rockies have an even bigger advantage when playing at home against the Diamondbacks, the Rockies are 5-1 at home against them this year.  Statistical Comparison:The Arizona Diamondbacks have not had that great a year when it comes to hitting, they are ranked in the bottom 10 of the MLB for most categories. They are ranked 22nd in the league for batting average (.236), 22nd in the league for RBI (484), 16th in the league for hits (973), and they are ranked 20th in the league for OBP (.311). They have had an even worse year when it comes to pitching, ranking even lower in the MLB than they are for hitting. They are ranked 29th in the league for ERA (5.21), 29th in the league for saves (17), 28th in the league for strikeouts (946), and they are ranked 29th in the league for WHIP (1.44). The Colorado Rockies have had a decent year when it comes to hitting, they still rank in the top half of the MLB for most categories. They are ranked 8th in the league for batting average (.250), 15th in the league for RBI (520), 10th in the league for hits (1004), and 16th in the league for OBP (.317). The Rockies definitely have a major disadvantage in the pitching game as they rank in the bottom 10 of the MLB for all the major categories. The Rockies are ranked 24th in the league for ERA (4.70), 24th in the league for saves (23), 27th in the league for Ks (954), and they are 22rd in the league for WHIP (1.37). Do not miss out on our amazing shop picks! Larry Ness is 6-1 on MLB over/under plays in the month of August. Make sure you check out his picks and many more from the expert handicappers featured in the shop picks section. Diamondbacks vs Rockies Game Preview:The Colorado Rockies definitely have the advantage in this matchup when it comes down to the stats. Not only are they better in the hitting department but, they blow them away in the pitching department as well as the Diamondbacks are one of the worst in the league. Friday marks the beginning of a three-game series between these two National League West Rivals.  The Diamondbacks will have rookie pitcher Tyler Gilbert as the projected starting pitcher for this game on Friday night. Gilbert is 1-1 with a 0.00 ERA this season. He has only played in four MLB games this season, starting just one of those games. The one game that he did start in was the last game he played in. He pitched great in that one, playing all 9 innings and shutting out the San Diego Padres as the D-backs went on to win that one 7-0. Between the four games he has played in this year, he has a little over 12 innings of work. He has only played in one road game this season, playing just 2 innings in that one. Although he did not allow any runs in that one, this will be his first actual start on the road in the MLB and he must face a Rockies team that has won 7 straight at home, putting up 6 or more runs in each of their last 3. Time to see what he is made of here. Austin Gomber will be throwing the first pitch for the Rockies in this game on Friday. Gomber is 9-7 on the season with a 4.09 ERA. He was credited with a loss in 2 of the last 3 games that he started in. He has allowed a total of 9 earned runs in those 3 starts. Overall, he has pitched pretty good this season though. He has made 10 appearances for his team this year and has allowed a total of 46 earned runs, averaging just a little over 2 per game. He has also pitched a lot better at home than on the road. He is 5-1 this season when pitching at home and the team is 6-2 in the home games that he has started in.  BetMGM sportsbook has the Rockies listed as a pretty heavy favorite, and that is completely understandable. The Rockies are a much better team on both sides of the ball, hitting and pitching. These two teams have also been trending in complete opposite directions recently. The Diamondbacks have strung together a few losses in a row on the road now while the Col Rockies seem to be unbeatable at Coors Field. The choice seems pretty obvious here on who is taking this game.  Notable quotes:"Everything was working today. Kept that same feel that we've had going. Quick outs, weak contact, faster-paced game." - Madison Bumgarner on their big 6-2 win against the Phillies on Thursday. "The five guys who pitched, they got punched a little but they put their dukes up and responded back with some swings of their own." - Bud Black on the pitching performance his team gave in the final game of the series sweep of the Padres.  Trends:Arizona: 18-11 on the money line against NL teams that are allowing over 4.5 runs per game this seasonColorado: 25-12 on the moneyline at home against NL teams with a batting average worse than .245. Diamondbacks Rockies Prediction:  Our MLB Pick for Friday, August 20, 2021 (8:40pm ET start time) is Rockies 7 Diamondbacks 2.Don't miss our champion handicappers free picks and expert baseball picks today.  And if you enjoyed this Arizona Diamondbacks Colorado Rockies prediction, be sure to drop by every day for our daily MLB projections and previews.

They are the worst team in the league and they have no answers for losing. They lost 0-4 to the Tampa Bay Rays, 0-3 to the Boston Red Sox, and 0-3 to the Detroit Tigers.  From Sunday to the following Saturday and back again.. They lose every matchup.  In advance of game time I’m willing to bet they will lose. For entertainment purposes I will check the local Baltimore news coverage of the team… I’m desperate to find out how the newsrooms in Baltimore even cover a team this bad. Statistical Comparison: The Braves are 13th in batting average .243, 8th in runs scored at 600, 3rd in home runs, 176.  They are a great hitting team. The Braves are 13th in team ERA 4.04, 13th in NOT giving up hits, and 8th in NOT giving up home runs.  They are solid on the mound.   The Orioles are 18th in batting average .238, 27th in runs scored, and 19th in home runs.  They are just bad at scoring… sort of the whole point of offense. The Orioles are (LAST) 30th in ERA 5.85, (LAST) 30th in NOT giving up hits, and finally (LAST) 30th in NOT giving up home runs.  They don’t have any pitchers either healthy or good.  They will lose a lot. Ben Burns is on a roll over the past 30 days.  Get Ben's Friday MLB Best Bets at our Shop Picks page, where you can find all of today's entire Major League Baseball premium pick predictions.    Braves vs Orioles Game Preview: The Braves will start Max Fried 10-7, 3.78 ERA, 113 strikeouts in 109 innings pitched, 1.29 WHIP.  He will get the win. The Orioles will start Keegan Akin, a chubby 5’11 nobody.  Keegan is 0-7, 8.13 ERA, 1.82 WHIP.  It’s disturbing that stats like that would get you a start in the majors… or even allow you to stay in the majors…. But to be fair Keegan isn’t responsible for the team being terrible so maybe the stats have been sabotaged?  Maybe the win fairy has sprinkled so much magical dust on the rest of the AL East that there was none left for Baltimore?  Maybe the whole team went out for Blue Shell crabs covered in Old Bay seasoning and look-alikes caem to fill their places?... They are bad.  Either bet against them or don’t bet.  If you find yourself wavering… only bet the Over because then you are giving the Braves the chance to win you money.  Braves vs Orioles Prediction:  Our MLB Pick for Friday August 20th game is Braves 10 Orioles 1 Don't miss our champion handicappers' free picks and expert baseball picks today.  And if you enjoyed this Atlanta Braves vs Baltimore Orioles prediction, be sure to drop by every day for our daily MLB projections and previews.

It’s a world that we’ll have to accept, which is a shame because the world deserves playoff Shohei Ohtani.Designated hitter Shohei Ohtani crushed his 40th home run of the season Wednesday in a 3-1 victory against the Detroit Tigers. Starting right-hander Shohei Ohtani pitched eight stellar innings to improve to 8-1 on the mound. Couple that with a 2.79 ERA, and the MVP race may be all but decided. In short, Shohei Ohtani is everything the world could ever hope for.The Angels are just a group of hitters and Ohtani at this point. Without Mike Trout or Anthony Rendon in the lineup, it’s going to be a long month and a half for the Angels to close this out. The Angels are 7.5 games out of a wild card spot; their path to the playoffs will not go through the Houston Astros.Jaime Barria is expected to take the mound for the Angels. The Indians are coming off a rare day off after playing 20 straight days. Cleveland lost two of three to the Minnesota Twins, the finale being an 8-7 walk-off defeat on Wednesday in 11 innings. Jose Ramirez went 2-for-6 with a home run. The 28-year-old is closing in on another 30-homer season, but his .254 batting average is the lowest its been in three seasons.Betting trendsThe Indians have done well as a home favorite, being a 21-8 (+8.7) success story this season. Overall, they’re 32-17 (+7.6).The Angels are 27-35 when an underdog of +100 or higher, and the under has gone 34-27 in that time.L.A. is 19-37 in its last 56 Friday games.PredictionCleveland’s betting success at home gives us reason to believe that this should be an easy success. But the Angels just came back from eight runs down against Detroit on Thursday, so let’s believe anything is possible with a closer look. Ohtani and the Angels will get it done in this American League matchup. Angels win 7-4. San Francisco took two of three against the New York Mets, losing 6-2 in extra innings in the series finale on Wednesday. When the Giants were winning World Series championships in the 2010s, the starting pitching is what got them there. It’s on the way to doing that again. San Francisco’s trio of Kevin Gausman, Anthony DeScalafani and Alex Wood are carving out a ridiculous tandem in the starting rotation that will be tough to beat come playoff time. Wood is expected to take the mound for the Giants on Friday. It’s not the first time Wood has had a stellar season. In 2017, his first stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers, he went 16-3 with a 2.72 ERA and somehow finished ninth place in Cy Young voting. In his second stint, this time as a reliever, he helped lead the Dodgers to a world title in 2020.This time, Wood is having a season similar to 2017, all but the ERA. He’s on pace for a career-high in strikeouts and will come close in innings pitched. He’s a third starter no one would want to face in a playoff series. The Athletics didn’t get what they wanted in their three-game series against the Chicago White Sox, but showed some battle in the 5-4 win in the series finale on Thursday, ending a four-game losing streak.Oakland also had to overcome some adversity after their ace Chris Bassitt left Wednesday’s game after taking a line drive to the face. He may be done for the season, but the A’s power batters came to the rescue on Thursday. No bat may be hotter right now than A’s third baseman Matt Chapman, who hit his fifth home run in six games Thursday. First baseman Matt Olson hit his 31st home run of the year in the win, as well. Olson is putting together an under-the-radar MVP campaign, nearing 100 RBI and a .279 batting average.Oakland trails the New York Yankees by a half-game for the top AL Wild Card spot, with the Boston Red Sox trailing by a half-game despite losing three in a row.Right-hander James Kaprielian is expected to take the mound for the A’s to round out the matchup. In his second season in the big leagues, he’s brought his WHIP down to 1.16 and is nearing 100 strikeouts.Betting trendsThe Giants are 14-4 against the AL West this season. As an underdog, the Giants are 27-17 (+18.3) with the over being near .500 (23-21).The Giants are 11-0 when Wood starts following a loss. The under is 34-24 when the A’s moneyline is between -100 to -150.PredictionThere’s going to be some fun baseball this weekend, and this series will be the same starting at first pitch. If the Giants can neutralize Oakland’s power bats, this should go the way they expect. The power triad of that rotation, at least Wood, is going to get tested greatly, and the Giants are at the point where they’re going to start letting people know to fear them. Take San Francisco in this one. Giants win 6-5.
