- 7* Over Smith/Crute (10:05 ET): This is a fight scheduled for three rounds in the UFC’s Light Heavyweight Division (205 lbs). It’s the pay per view opener. Both are ranked within the LHW division. Jimmy Crute is ranked 13th, but is the decided favorite over 6th ranked Anthony Smith, a veteran with a 34-16 overall record including 9-6 in the UFC. Crute is 12-1 overall and 4-1 in the UFC. I look for this fight to easily go Over 1.5 rounds and likely make it to the scorecards.
Smith has fought some of the division’s biggest names and has some high profile wins. He also lost to Jon Jones in 2019. Since losing that title fight, he’s gone just 2-2. But he did win his last time out, a first round submission of Devin Clark last November. That quick of a win was a bit surprising considering Smith’s previous five fights all made it to the third round or later. Many of his wins have been in come from behind fashion, late round stoppages when he was trailing on the scorecards. That’s not really a sustainable blueprint, however.
Crute is younger and a better LHW prospect at this point in time. He looks like a future title challenger. As he’s matured, he’s learned to slow things down a bit and fight smarter. That said, his last four fights have all ended in the first round including a loss. Smith will not go down that easily, however. Crute better be patient here. Regardless, I see this one making it past the halfway mark of round two rather easily. This is the toughest test Crute will have faced in his career. 7* Over Smith/Crute
