- #115 MIAMI (-) over Washington at 7 PM EST
Under the direction of first-year head coach Jeff Hafley, the Dolphins will travel to Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland and roll past the Commanders.
Yes, Washington did dominate Miami in a joint practice on Wednesday. However, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn has a number of depth-chart battles in play and that will be his focus in this preseason lid-lifter. In comparison, the Dolphins have openly stated that starting quarterback Malik Willis will get some reps in this game. Coach Hafley wants to get his team started off on the right foot and a road win over a strong Commanders squad will accomplish that mission.
There are a few angles and trends that support this investment. Holding a 13-6 SU and 14-5 ATS record, Miami has certainly played well in the preseason lately. In addition, as an exhibition guest priced as a favorite or a short underdog of +2.5 or less, the Fish own a profitable 13-6 SU and 15-4 ATS mark. On the other side of the playing field, Washington has a history of starting slowly in August posting a weak 1-8 SU and ATS record in its first preseason battle. Also, when tackling an AFC opponent, the Commanders hold a rough 5-14 SU and 4-15 ATS record in their last 19 tries.
The Dolphins have a new sheriff in town in Coach Hafley and they will get their season started with a momentum-building road win and cover. Take Miami. Thanks, and best of luck, Tom.
