- I’ll take the Minnesota Twins-Milwaukee Brewers Sunday series finale UNDER, mainly because Milwaukee starter Jacob Misiorowski has done more than enough to believe that this matchup can stay low-scoring.
Misiorowski is 11-5 with a 1.63 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 195 strikeouts in 127 innings on the year. He possesses triple-digit heat, and the swing-and-miss stuff to back it up. He’s been filthy this season, making him one of the hardest starting pitchers in all of baseball to consistently deal damage against.
Misiorowski was sharp once again in his last start against the Angels, allowing two hits over seven innings of work while striking out 10 and issuing just one walk. He struck out 16 hitters in a row at one point and threw just 83 pitches through seven innings. When you can pitch that efficiently, you have a great chance to go deep into games.
Minnesota didn’t muster a hit against Milwaukee after their team hit cleanup early in the game Saturday night. The Twins scored all three of their runs in the first inning, then watched the Brewers pitchers go to work. Chad Patrick, Abner Uribe, Aaron Ashby and Trevor Megill combined to hold Minnesota hitless over the last 4 1/3 innings.
If Misiorowski can make it through six or seven innings Sunday, Minnesota may not get very many chances to put runs on the board. Staring down Misiorowski might be enough for the Twins offense.
Twins starter Connor Prielipp isn’t overpowering by any means, as he comes into this matchup with a 4.75 ERA. But his 3.87 FIP indicates he’s been a little better than that. He also pitched competitively in his last outing versus Seattle. Prielipp allowed three runs during the opening frame, but managed to shut down Seattle for his final 5 1/3 innings.
The Brewers offense also hasn’t been lighting it up in this series. Milwaukee scored four runs Saturday, but didn’t get their decisive run until the eighth inning of what ended up being a 4-3 win.
If Misiorowski keeps Minnesota off the board for six or seven innings and the Milwaukee bullpen shuts them down like it did on Saturday, I like the UNDER blueprint to work once again. Jacob Misiorowski’s incredible 1.63 ERA combined with elite strikeout ability and a Milwaukee bullpen that neutralized Minnesota on Saturday makes the UNDER a great play for Sunday’s series finale.
