- I'm backing the Chicago White Sox tonight, in a critical series opener, as they have the pitching edge over the Cleveland Guardians and will open the three-game set with a win.
The Pale Hose are one game back of the Guardians in the AL Central, and could be alone in first with a sweep of the series.
The Guardians continue this nine-game trip that stopped in Milwaukee and Houston first, and now faces a guy who has been lights out on the South Side, dominating visiting lineups.
Anthony Kay is 5-0 with a 3.08 ERA in eight home appearances, and that includes a June 12 stunner against the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers, allowing just two runs on four hits in five innings while striking out seven.
He's allowed two or fewer runs in seven of his last nine outings and with this being a huge divisional showdown, I think we may see domination.
His bats will back him, as the Guardians turn to Gavin Williams, who I know is 9-4 with a 3.83 ERA in 15 starts this season, but has also struggled in June, to the tune of a 1-1 mark and 7.63 ERA in three starts.
And in three career starts against the White Sox, he's 1-1 with a 5.79 ERA. He's made just one start in Chicago, and while he doesn't have a decision, he does have a 5.40 ERA there.
Take the South Siders.
