- Sam Aldegheri had a tough start on Wednesday but his prior four outings were all positive and he has a 1.76 ERA in Anaheim this season. The Orioles have struggled all season vs. left-handed pitching with a 7-14 record vs. left-handed starters and a team batting average of only .227. Over the past 10 games Baltimore has hit .200 with only 1.4 runs per nine vs. southpaws. Baltimore put up 12 runs to beat the Dodgers on Sunday, now 3-3 in a tough west coast road trip. That outburst included four home runs and eight extra base hits, something that will be difficult to replicate. The Orioles have scored three or fewer runs five times in the past eight games and while Baltimore has been an ‘over’ team this season, the pitching staff has been in one of its best stretches of the season in recent weeks. Baltimore has a 3.70 team ERA the past 10 games including a 2.93 ERA from the bullpen. Kyle Bradish is Baltimore’s top starter with a 9.4 K/9 and a 4.00 ERA, and he has been even better than that the past three seasons as his numbers could improve as a career high .329 BABIP is likely to climb downward. The Angels also had a big day at the plate Sunday in a 9-7 comeback win. Nine runs came on only 10 hits and with only four at-bats with runners in scoring position in the game for an unusual outcome built on three multi-run home runs. Los Angeles pitching has been adequate in the past 10 games compared to the rough season numbers and the Angels have had three shutouts in the past nine games. Moving back home after four games in Sacramento will provide a boost to the bullpen and Los Angeles did get at last five innings from every starter in the last series. There isn’t expected to be much wind in Anaheim tonight while temperatures will be colder than usual for the start of summer in southern California which should favor lower numbers in contrast to Sunday’s results for these teams.
