Yesterday’s Results for Los Angeles Angels vs Arizona Diamondbacks

Analysis: Arizona can win on Monday because they’re simply the more consistent club heading into the series and Ryne Nelson has pitched much better at Chase Field than his full-season stats show. We’re looking at a matchup between Walbert Urena and Nelson, as the Angels come in at 29-43 and Arizona at 36-35. Urena rebound has been real as he is 4-4 with a 2.44 ERA on the season, but Nelson is rolling at home as well after logging four consecutive home quality starts with a 2.20 ERA over that span. Arizona also won a series in Cincinnati this past weekend, defeating the Reds 5-3 on Sunday. That means Arizona comes into this game with some momentum and a chance to rise back above .500 on home soil. Arizona’s other edge here is that the Angels may be exposed after their starter. Los Angeles dropped their finale against Tampa Bay 8-3 on Sunday, a game that forced the Angels to go five deep in their bullpen after Grayson Rodriguez was forced from the game in the third inning due to lower back tightness. Rodriguez’s early departure is not an ideal way to head into a road opener against a team that just exhibited late-game offense in Cincinnati with Gabriel Moreno’s eighth inning homer being the difference maker. Despite Urena’s heat, Arizona simply has the better spots all around: healthier game environment, home starter in better form and an opponent traveling after a taxing Sunday finale.
