- Analysis
- The Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers both closed out their seven-game series two days ago, so there may be equal weariness. But overall, I think the Pistons have the edge in this one being at home, after closing out their series on the same court and having a rather easy time with the Orlando Magic in a 116-94 win.
After falling behind 1-3 in their opening-round series, the Pistons woke up and remembered where they finished in the Eastern Conference during the regular season, and won three in a row - by 7, 14 and 22 - getting better each time out.
And don't even begin to think the Pistons are anything like the team we saw in the first four games. This is the team that closed the regular season winning 15 of 19 and outscoring teams by 15.3 points per game with an offense that is hitting 51.4% from the floor, 39.6% from 3-point range and an overall effective field-goal percentage of 58%.
The Cavaliers, on the other hand, had their hands full right down to the end, having won their first two against Toronto, then losing two straight, and then alternating the next three games. Game 6 went to overtime, a 112-110 loss, and then a 114-102 win in Game 7.
With little time to rest, the Cavaliers go from Toronto on Friday, to Cleveland on Sunday and now in Detroit for this opener. This could be an epic series and we could see another seven-game set for these teams, but tonight is Detroit's game to capitalize on and win big.
