- #915 DETROIT with Mize (-) over Boston with Suarez at 7:15 PM EST
In a zone right now off six consecutive wins, the Motor City Kitty's will stay hot and pick up another dub in Beantown. The Red Sox return home off a six-game road trip and a win in the Twin Cities over the Twins and this will be a very difficult spot for manager Alex Cora and his players.
Right-hander Casey Mize will grab the pill for the visitors. In his last three starts against the Marlins, Twins, and Diamondbacks, No. 12 was nicked for seven earned runs and 17 hits in 16.0 innings. Casey struck out 18 and walked six on his way to a 1-1 record with a 3.94 ERA. In five career starts against the BoSox, Mize has put together a 0-1 mark with a respectable 3.95 ERA.
Struggling southpaw Ranger Suarez will hit the hill for the home team. Lined up against the Cardinals, Padres, and Astros, No. 55 was bombed for eight earned runs and 16 hits in 14.1 innings of work. Ranger fanned 11 and issued five free passes on his way to a 1-1 record with a weak 5.02 ERA. Last year, with the Phillies, Suarez made 26 starts and was busted for 56 earned runs and 154 hits in 157.1 frames. That adds up to a 12-8 tally with a 3.20 ERA.
There are plenty of power angles that line up on this wager. Detroit has grabbed victories in 102 of its last 190 when strolling in off win, eight of its last 13 when rolling with a rest disadvantage, and 126 of its last 239 when facing a non-division foe. On the other side of the yard, Boston has fallen in 11 of its last 18 against teams outside of the AL East and nine of its last 15 as a favorite.
The Tigers have won seven of their last 10 in this series and they will get out of the gate in this four-game set with a dominant performance here. Take Detroit with Mize. Thanks, and best of luck, Tom.
