Chicago White Sox vs Miami Marlins Under 7.5 (-108)

- Analysis
- The under makes sense here primarily because it’s not really an egregious number to begin with at 7.5, and also because both starters look to deep into this game on Wednesday. Sandy Alcantara will get the nod for Miami while Chicago counters with Shane Smith. When you see a game lined this low, it’s already telling you that the market is expecting something tighter and more pitching-dependent, and Alcantara is the biggest reason why.
Miami won the previous game in this series 9-2, but that total was inflated more by White Sox defense than White Sox offense. Chicago committed three errors Tuesday that Miami capitalized on, and Miami’s bullpen & Janson Junk held Chicago scoreless over their final 4.2 innings. In other words, sloppy play inflated Tuesday’s total. This does not always mean the shifts from day to day.
In Chicago’s favor, the under theory here is Smith simply has to be good enough. He’s not expected to be overpowering in this spot against a Marlins lineup that’s hit well out of the gates this year. Smith has to limit free passes and keep Miami’s offense limited to singles. If he does that and Alcantara holds true to form, then this stays under because Alcantara should be able to handle the bulk of the White Sox lineup.
My play is White Sox-Marlins under 7.5 mostly because the total isn’t extremely low to begin with, Miami has the clear advantage on the mound, and Chicago offense might have the hardest time from an individual standpoint.
