- Analysis
- Boston has had great recent success in this series and these teams met in the playoffs in 2022, 2023, and 2024 including splitting a pair of seven-game Eastern Conference Finals series in 2022 and 2023. Boston’s record this season is rather hollow, with the Celtics 10-12 this season vs. top 10 teams and facing the fourth weakest schedule in the NBA. Miami has gone only 3-7 S/U in the past 10 games as the Heat have sunk to the bottom of the Eastern Conference playoff picture, currently tied with Charlotte for the #9 and #10 positions. The Heat are only 2.5 games out of the #6 spot and even if Miami winds up in the play-in bracket again there is a good opportunity to improve its position in the final two weeks of the regular season. After a shocking loss at Indiana Sunday the Heat bounced back to beat Philadelphia at home Monday before an off day Tuesday. Miami is 1-3 S/U in the past four home games, but they faced quality teams in that run, and this is still a team with home wins over Houston and Detroit in recent weeks. Miami is 0-3 S/U vs. Boston this season but the past two meetings were extremely close games including a two-point loss at Boston in February. The Celtics are facing a third straight road game in the Southeast after losing in Atlanta on Monday. In the past 12 games Boston has only two wins by more than 11 points as it hasn’t been a dominant stretch, going 8-4 S/U but 6-6 ATS. Boston has been a great ATS team this season, but motivation may be in short order in the final two weeks of the regular season. The Celtics are extremely unlikely to have their position adjusted in the final two weeks of the season, sitting 4.5 games behind Detroit while 2.5 games ahead of New York in the Eastern Conference standings. Some inconsistency and possible load management is likely on the horizon for the Celtics, especially in games where the opposition will have an incentive. Miami has had a much tougher path and with 12, the Heat have more wins than Boston vs. top 10 teams. Boston started Luke Garza, Baylor Scheierman, and Jordan Walsh on Monday as this is a team that is going to have sub-optimal lineups as it prepares for the playoffs and the still recent return of Jayson Tatum. Norman Powell and Andrew Wiggins are question marks for the Heat, but this is likely the last full effort home game of the season for the Heat and Miami has scored at least 118 points in each of the past four games and six of the past seven games. The Heat are 30-11 S/U and 33-8 ATS when scoring 118 or more points this season and Miami has above average offensive efficiency splits in the past 10 games even with a losing record in that snapshot. Boston has been a formidable defensive team but the Celtics are in the league’s bottom 12 in the past 10 games for offensive efficiency despite reaching the 50-win platform last week.
