Analysis
The Boise State Broncos have won four in a row in this series, and 15 of the last 16 against the San Jose State Spartans. To go even further, Boise State and San Jose State have met 46 times, with and the Broncos own a 42-4 record in the series. Under coach Leon Rice, the Broncos are 22-2 against the Spartans. Sheer domination. And now, a less-than-competitive and subpar Spartans team takes on a Boise State squad that is hoping to draw even at .500, as it's 4-5 in Mountain West Conference play, and sits in seventh place. It's games like these the Broncos have to take advantage of, and use their proficient scoring. Boise State has four players who have scored 200 or more points, which is tied with New Mexico for the most in the Mountain West. And with the top two frontcourt scorers in the Mountain West this season, the Broncos should be able to dominate near the glass. Drew Fielder leads all forwards and centers with 272 points, while Andrew Meadow is second at 258. Javan Buchanan ranks seventh on the list with 219. San Jose State, which is 6-14 overall and 1-8 in conference play, is just 5-5 at home and comes in mired in a three-game skid. The Spartans have lost nine of 10 since Dec. 13. I don't care about this one being in Silicon Valley, not when the Spartans rank 311th with 70.3 points per game and 233rd in allowing 75.7 points per contest. Also on defense, the Spartans are allowing teams to shoot 48.4% from the floor (346th) and 36.2% from 3-point range (318th). The metrics are clearly not in San Jose's favor, as it ranks near the bottom in several other key categories. Lay the points, as Boise State is my MOUNTAIN WEST GAME OF THE YEAR.
