Analysis
At 8:07 PM ET on Saturday, we will be playing the money-line on the Dallas Stars (78) versus the Florida Panthers (77). THE SITUATION: Dallas (21-6-5) saw their four-game winning streak snapped in a 5-2 loss at Montreal on Thursday. Florida (15-13-2) was on a three-game winning streak before a 6-2 loss at Colorado on Thursday. REASONS TO TAKE THE STARS WITH THE MONEY-LINE: Dallas returns home, where they should bounce-back as they have won 18 of their last 26 games at home after losing their last game. The Stars have won 12 of their last 17 games when priced as a money-line favorite priced up to -150, including five of those six games played at home. And while the Panthers are scoring 3.1 Goals-Per-Game this season, Dallas has won 12 of their last 14 games against teams who are scoring 3.0 or more Goals-Per-Game. Jake Oettinger is between the pipes for the Stars tonight. In 21 starts this season, he has a 14-5-2 record along with a 2.51 Goals-Against-Average and a .908 save percentage. In his four starts this month, he enjoys a 1.49 GAA and a .943 save percentage. His home/road splits are roughly the same so far this season — but last season, he sported a 2.14 GAA and a .920 save percentage in 32 starts. The deeper sabermetrics confirm his good start to the season. He ranks tenth in the league with +11.5 Goals-Saved-Above-Expectation (GSAx). Florida is in trouble to make the playoffs as they are struggling to find consistency playing without the injured Matthew Tkachuk and Aleksandr Barkov. Even the two-time defending champions are challenged by being without their best two players. This is the Panthers’ sixth game since December 4th — and they have lost 5 straight games when playing for the sixth or more time in the last ten days. They have lost all 7 of their games on the road this season, with the Total set at 6 or higher — and they have lost all 4 of their games on the road against a team with a winning record. Florida has also lost 5 of their last 7 games against teams with a winning percentage in the 60-75% range. Sergei Bobrovsky gets the nod tonight, but the veteran is not playing at his best right now. He has a 12-8-1 record with a 2.98 GAA and a .882 save percentage in 21 starts. He was steady out of the gate with a 2.28 GAA and a .903 save percentage in his eight starts in October. But in his 13 starts since, he has a .871 save percentage — and he has posted a 3.43 GAA and a 3.33 GAA in November and so far this month. The deeper metrics are not encouraging. His -2.00 GSAx mark is the 67th worst in the NHL. Furthermore, he ranks 54th in the league (minimum five games) by averaging -0.098 GSAx per start. Not good, Bob. FINAL TAKE: Florida won the first meeting between these teams on their home ice back on November 1st by a 4-3 score. The Stars have won 9 of their last 13 opportunities to avenge a loss, including five of their seven games played at home. 10* NHL Saturday Night Discounted Deal with the money-line on the Dallas Stars (78) versus the Florida Panthers (77). Best of luck for us — Frank.
