NC State is still searching for the first signature win of the Will Wade era. Saturday's matchup against No. 19 Kansas is a massive opportunity to get it, as the Wolfpack welcomes the Jayhawks and head coach Bill Self to the Lenovo Center with a sellout crowd expected. With a win, NC State could massive improve its standing nationally and potentially work its way back into the AP Top 25, improving the hopes for a deeper run into the NCAA Tournament come March. The Jayhawks (7-3) will try to avoid getting swept by the three programs in North Carolina's Research Triangle. Kansas lost to then-No. 25 North Carolina 87-74 in Chapel Hill on Nov. 7 and fell to then-No. 5 Duke 78-66 on Nov. 18 on a neutral floor in New York City. NC State (7-3), meanwhile, is coming off its most impressive defensive performance of the season, holding Liberty to the Wolfpack's season low in points in a dominant 85-45 win on Wednesday. The Flames came ranked among the top teams in the country in 3-point shooting at 43.1% but they hit just 21.4% from deep. Five Wolfpack players are averaging in double figures in scoring. Darrion Williams leads the way at 15.9 points per game and also averages 4.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists. If NC State is to have more success against Kansas, it needs to get more out of its star players. The most important part of that equation is forward Darrion Williams, a player who is intimately familiar with Kansas, given his time at Texas Tech over the past two seasons. He scored 30 points against the Jayhawks on a perfect 12-for-12 shooting night in 2024. Wade leaned on his star during preparations for KU.
