- Analysis
- This game will feature a great clash of styles as a deliberately paced Louisiana Tech team visits an up-tempo Georgia Southern squad. The Eagles are just 4-5 this season but the schedule has been decent, facing four top 200 teams and only one team outside the nation’s top 300. Georgia Southern is 3-0 at home including a win over UNC Asheville as a second straight season of improvement looks possible for Charlie Henry in his third season in Statesboro after posting an eight-win leap last season. Henry coached under Fred Hoiberg and Nate Oats and also has experience in the NBA as his star could rise with the Eagles capable of competing well in the Sun Belt this season with a veteran roster filled with seniors. Given the fast pace of play the strong turnover rates on both sides of the ball are appealing for Georgia Southern while this has been a solid 3-point defense. Louisiana Tech is 4-2 with only three Division I wins. The Bulldogs are 4-0 at home but with only one top 300 win, coming by just two points against Indiana State, who Louisiana Tech also had lost to on the road in the game prior in a home-and-home pairing. In the team’s toughest road game, the Bulldogs lost by 27 at Nevada. Louisiana Tech has shot just 22 percent from 3-point range and below 61 percent from the free throw line for concerning numbers for a team that stalls the pace and minimizes possessions. Talvin Hester’s team won 20 games last season, but it was a step-back from the 2023-24 season and last year’s team had good shooting numbers. These teams played a year ago with Louisiana Tech winning 77-63 in Ruston, but Louisiana Tech shot 41 percent from 3-point range. Georgia Southern made only four free throws in the game and played that game without Adante’ Holiman who was last season’s best player for the Eagles. Georgia Southern seems likely to have an edge in turnovers and 3-point shooting in this game while the pushing the pace of play could be problematic for an inexperienced Bulldogs squad that hasn’t had success on the road. Last season in Conference USA play Louisiana Tech went just 3-7 away from home while Georgia Southern had only three home losses all last season all of which came against the top tier of the SBC.
Thank you for playing with Nelly’s and Best of Luck.
