Analysis
#975 MARINERS with Castillo (+) over Mets with Manaea at 7:10 PM EST In a bad mood off a pair of road losses to the O's, the M's will travel to the Big Apple and take a bite out of the Mets in this interleague war. Seattle sits 1.5-games back from the top spot in the AL West and the Mariners need this dub in order to keep the heat on the surging Astros. Veteran righty Luis Castillo will pick up the pearl for the visitors. So far this year, No. 58 has made 24 starts and been touched for 49 earned runs and 127 hits in 138.1 innings of work. Luis fanned 120 and issued 37 free passes on his way to a 8-6 record with a 3.19 ERA. Equally impressive, in his last seven performances, Castillo was clipped for only 11 earned runs and 35 hits in 42.0 frames. After the math, that adds up to a 4-1 mark with a respectable 2.36 ERA. Aging southpaw Sean Manaea will get the nod for the home squad. With six appearances completed this season including five actual starts, No. 59 was popped for 13 earned runs and 24 hits in 27.0 innings. Sean struck out 30 and walked six on his way to a 1-1 tally with a 4.33 ERA. Even worse, in a pair of August outings against the Brew Crew and Guardians, Manaea was mauled for nine earned runs and 13 hits in 9.2 frames. That adds up to a lofty 8.38 ERA. A number of lucrative trends back this power wager. Seattle has grabbed 31 of its last 54 when coming off a loss and 19 of its last 31 when facing a left-handed starter. On the flip side, New York has fallen in 13 of its last 15 overall, 30 of its last 56 when arriving off a straight up loss, and 69 of its last 131 when facing an American League foe. The Mets are playing their worst baseball of the season and they'll have issued matched up against an M's squad that has tasted victory in 10 of their last 13 games. Take Seattle with Castillo. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
