Analysis
#967 CUBS with Rea (-) over Twins with Paddack at 1:10 PM EST Off back-to-back losses to the Twins and in danger of being swept, the Cubs will make sure to pick up this victory especially with a tough three-game set on the road against the Yankees on deck. Chicago's lead in the NL Central is down to 1.5-games over Milwaukee and manager Craig Counsell and his kids need this dub like blood. Right-hander Colin Rea will toe the rubber for the visitors. With 18 appearances in the books this season including 14 starts, No. 53 was nicked for only 39 earned runs and 90 hits in 85.0 innings. Colin struck out 60 and walked 21 on his way to a 6-3 record with a 4.13 ERA. In his last two outings versus the Cardinals and Astros, Rea was at his best surrendering just three earned runs and seven hits in 11.2 frames. That's good enough for a 2-0 record with a reliable 2.32 ERA. Toeing the rubber for the home team will be righty Chris Paddack. So far this year, No. 20 has made 18 starts and been clipped for 49 earned runs and 92 hits in 95.0 innings of work. Chris whiffed 68 and walked 24 on his way to a 3-7 record with a soft 4.64 ERA. In his last seven starts, Paddack was pounded for 24 earned runs and 42 hits in 37.2 frames. That's bad enough for a 1-2 mark with a weak 5.74 ERA. This is a solid technical spot for the visitors, too. Chicago has picked up wins in 54 of its last 92 overall, 27 of its last 37 when coming off a loss, and 14 of its last 23 against American League opponents. Meanwhile, Minnesota has fallen in 15 of its last 26 against NL foes and 29 of its last 51 against winning teams. The Cubs have the Brew Crew on their tail in the division standings and they need a victory in order to maintain their slim advantage. Take Chicago with Rea. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
