- Analysis
- Dallas could still move up to the #9 spot in the Western Conference standings but the Mavericks can feel relatively safe that they will have an opportunity in a play-in game with Phoenix now losers of seven in a row including a blowout loss last night, leaving a three-game gap between the Mavericks and Suns for the final spot in the Western Conference field. Dallas is just 6-13 S/U since late February and every loss in that run has come by at least four points. These teams met in late February in Los Angeles with the Lakers winning 107-99 shortly after the blockbuster trade but Kyrie Irving kept Dallas in that game with 35 points. While Anthony Davis is likely to play in this game, Irving is out for the season as any hopes of making any sort of a run in the playoffs have been diminished for last year’s conference champions. Splitting two games in Oklahoma City was an acceptable result for the Lakers this week but the lead over the four-team block in the 4-7 positions in the Western Conference standings is just one game for the Lakers, clinging to the #3 position. The Lakers have Houston on Friday in the home finale and then finish at Portland, with the Blazers offering a spoiler threat as this is a critical game for Los Angeles to hold their position. Rui Hachimura missed last night’s game and won’t likely play tonight. The Lakers successfully spread its minutes last night as 12 players saw the court. The Lakers are 8-5 S/U and 7-5-1 ATS without an off day ahead of a game this season while since early December the Lakers are 13-7-1 ATS off a S/U loss. Dallas is just 3-6 S/U and 1-8 ATS in the past nine home games since late February, including 1-4 ATS in a home underdog role.
