Astros: 106-56, 1st AL West, 3-2 World Series

The Wor4ld Series has been a siren song of betting disappointment.  The Philadelphia Phillies demonstrated an ability to score in clusters… to earn runs in bunches… frankly to hit the ball.  The Phillies took wins in Games 1 and 3 by smacking the cover off the ball.  They also took losses in Games 2 and 4 by NOT smacking the cover off of anything.  The result is now the 2022 World Series goes back to Houston for 6 and 7 **if 7 is needed** with the Astros down 3-2.  I can’t tell you how a win in game 3 gave me a huge betting lead… and losses in Games 4 and 5 took that huge betting lead away.  I thought that the home crowd would propel the Phillies to take at least 2 of the 3 games at home… They didn’t.  Lots of Phillies Fanatics left Citizens Bank Park dejected (and probably a little drunk).  It’s not over… in baseball nothing ends until the ABSOLUTE end… but the historical numbers will tell you the crack in the window is small and hard to get through.  For the Phillies to beat the Astros 2 games in a row and claim a World Series title… they would need a herculean effort of numbers defying intensity.  We should have seen this coming?... The Phillies were the first 3rd place team from their division to make the World Series in 100 years.  The Phillies were 87 wins in the regular season while the Astros had 106 wins in the regular season… The Astros batting AND pitching numbers were higher than the Phillies all season long.  So what is the Great Betting Opportunity?  For Game 6?

The Philadelphia Phillies lost Game 5 of the 2022 World Series in a close 3-2 finish.  The Phillies looked like they were going to turn things around in the 8th inning when they had runners on first and third with only 1 Out and the top of their lineup headed for the plate.  It just never came to be. Phillies pitcher Noah Syndergaard made his second start of the postseason and only went 3 innings after allowing three hits and 2 runs.  The Phillies got the excitement going on the offensive end with a perfect Kyle Schwarber home run in the bottom of the first inning… they would not score again until the 8th inning… and that last run would not do the trick. Phillies game highlights were few and far between.  A great moment was Catcher JT Realmuto throwing Jeremy Pena out at second base on a steal attempt… another great moment was that frist inning home run… and then… huh?

The Houston Astros are preparing for a Championship celebration on their home field.  They first have to win a game… one single game.  The fans of baseball do not like that this is a reality coming 5 season since this ballclub cheated its way to a World Series title and was not sufficiently punished for it.  However… They are one win away.  In Game 5 Justin Verlander put his 0-6 in the World Series standing out of his head… and promptly gave up a home run to Kyle Schwarber.  After that he settled down and made it through 5 innings with 6 strikeouts and only that one run to show for it.  Astros SS Jeremy Pena had a star moment when he got up to snag a massive hit from Phillies Nick Castellanos.  It was sure to be an RBI double… instead it was out with a whimper.  Pena if you remember was the first rookie shortstop to ever win a Golden Glove. Pena would also come up with a solo home run.  In a night of limited offense with tons of defense… Penas supplied a large slice of both for the Astros.
