Jets - Predators preview, prediction and analysis

Recent results
Jets: won 5-3 at Flyers
Predators: won 5-3 vs. Kings

The Winnipeg Jets will be playing the Nashville Predators on Tuesday, January 24 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Winnipeg Jets won against the Philadelphia Flyers Sunday, January 22 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with a score of 5-3. The Winnipeg Jets currently rank 1st in the Central Division. Karson Kuhlman scored the go-ahead goal in the third period for the Winnipeg Jets, who recovered after blowing a three-goal lead to defeat the Philadelphia Flyers.

"We jumped out of the gates great," Kuhlman said. "A back to back, they were on one as well, so it's always kind of a toss-up. We just wanted to play our game right from the drop of the puck. I think we did that and gave ourselves a little bit of a cushion. Obviously wanted to play a better 60-minute game than that but ended up with the win."

Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele scored in the first 8:31 of the game for Winnipeg. David Rittich made 28 saves.

Kuhlman put Winnipeg ahead 4-3 at 8:44 of the third period when he drove to the net and slid the puck under Philadelphia Flyers goalie Felix Sandstrom.

"On that final goal there, [Morgan] Barron and I had taken a few pucks to the net earlier in the game and just kind of missed, they're just kind of sitting around there," Kuhlman said. "So it was nice to see that one kind of slide in."

Jonsson-Fjallby, who plays on the fourth line with Kuhlman and Stenlund, made it 1-0 at 4:53 of the first period when he redirected a shot by Brenden Dillon, who had two assists.

"We've got a lot of skill on this team, and we know in the room when we commit to defending and playing the right way, we're going to score enough goals this year to be able to offset that," Dillon said. "We committed to it for a good chunk of the game, enough to win tonight."

The Winnipeg Jets have won seven of their last 10 games.

The Nashville Predators won against the Los Angeles Kings last Saturday, January 21 in Nashville, Tennessee with a score of 5-3. The Nashville Predators currently rank 5th in the Central Division. Matt Duchene had two goals, and the Nashville Predators scored three straight in the third period.

"The second was a tough period [for us]," Duchene said. "They played pretty well and got good bounces that went in our net. But I thought we did a good job sticking with it. It was a big win for us, and I think we just take the lessons of what made us successful from tonight and take them on to the next game."

Ryan Johansen and Mikael Granlund each had a goal and an assist, and Roman Josi had three assists for the Predators, who have won three of four. Juuse Saros made 31 saves.

"Tonight it was a hungry group, it was a passionate group," Nashville coach John Hynes said. "Throughout the lineup we had good performances and I thought guys played to the ability they can play to, so it was a good game. It was a good response game, and I certainly think we can take some lessons out of this one and build on it going [forward]."

Johansen tied it 3-3 at 8:44 of the third period when he redirected in a centering pass from Granlund. It was Nashville's second power-play goal in 26 opportunities dating to Jan. 6.

"It was a big one," Hynes said. "It was a key moment in the game. They came through. That's a typical example of where you need your power play to step up. They certainly did that and that was a big difference."

Duchene gave Nashville a 4-3 lead at 13:34 of the third period, beating Kings player Jonathan Quick off the rush with a wrist shot in front of the net.

Cole Smith then redirected Predators player Roman Josi's shot at 16:10 for the 5-3 final. It was his first NHL goal in his 49th game.

"[Smith] has been playing great," Duchene said. "It's really nice to see him get rewarded. He works his butt off every night, so good for him."

The Nashville Predators have won six of their last 10 games.
