Washington State - Oregon State preview and analysis

If you have no plans whatsoever for a Monday night, and I understand Mondays are usually not the best days to have plans, I employ you all to stay away from any sightings of PAC 12 basketball on Monday because if you do you might find yourself at this game.

I cannot imagine for the life of me anyone wanting to actually sit through a couple of hours of watching two teams just play abysmal basketball for even a decent amount of time. No I don't want to fully put this on the Washington state Cougars because they are just the opponent that is sitting there waiting in the wings. But I feel like the Oregon State Beavers are bad enough to occupy 2 bad teams to which it should automatically mean no one should want to watch them.

And it is because of this theory that I feel like if no one should actually want to watch this game it should end in a double forfeit because that's the way life goes. At least give the victory to Washington state so that they don't have to waste their time and God forbid have any injuries happen in this game. It it just needs to be something that we don't need to watch because why? We should already accept the fact that Oregon State will be the last possible seed in the PAC 12 tournament and God help us all if they go on a run and win the whole thing because life is funny that way.

I will give Oregon State this. They almost knocked off USC last week. And it wasn't some 10 point loss or they hung around and only lost by a few baskets. This was a double overtime loss to one of the best teams in the country. Yet more of me would have been more on the side of USC absolutely choked and should no longer be ranked in the top 25 had that come to pass. But the Beaver still lost, and combine that with a 39 point loss to UCLA on Saturday night, Oregon State has lost 14 straight games and are 1-16 in conference play.

Oregon State actually shot the ball pretty decently for a team that has found horrendous ways to shoot the ball. They shot 40.8% from the floor, led by Maurice Calloo’s 13 points. Glenn Taylor and Roman Silva each had ten points, but that was it. No one else on offense did anything, nor did they probably even want to. Oregon State had 12 turnovers in the game, were doubled up in the rebounding category, and just looked pitiful.

There's really not much more you can say for this game. it's just the fact that Oregon State is not good and I'm quite surprised that there's even a PAC 12 team that looks this bad. The California Golden Bears were one of those teams a few years ago that just did not deserve to be in any tournament let alone the conference tournament and they still came out and played hard. It barely looks like Oregon State plays hard because they gotten through one bit of weird business and now they're just stuck in purgatory at this point.

And that's not to say that I'm giving the Washington state Cougars a pass in their own horrible irrelevance right now, but it does not help matters that wazzu has lost six of its last seven. They split the home at home against Washington with a win on Saturday on the road, but I don't think there's going to be much of an issue splitting this home and home against Oregon State and chalking up two more wins in the process.

I will also give the Cougars credit on this front as well. They have actually played well against their competition despite those losses. They lost by three to Arizona State, three to Oregon, two to USC, and 12 to Arizona. I would say you take that with a win any day of the week. Which is a lot more than I can say about Oregon State right now because holy cow why is this team playing basketball?

Prediction

I don't anticipate this being any trouble for UCLA. I think this is going to be an easy victory, probably not as easy as it as it was against Oregon State but I think well enough to where they could at least get a cover and control this game from start to finish. I will stress though that if that does not come to pass, I don't wanna hear about UCLA for the rest of the season. I just don't have any belief in this team and I don't really trust them to do anything when they get to the field of 68. Right now, they are not the best team in the PAC 12 and honestly I think we were all fooled from the very beginning and that's on us. UCLA by 20
