Game 2 of this lopsided matchup.  The Mets come into this series on a 2-game winning streak against the Dodgers.  Rolling into Friday night’s Game 1 they are heavy favorites… In game 2 they are even bigger favorites.  The world is offering you free money on the moneyline… Take it… even though it will be a small return.

A battle of the National League East.  It is hardly a battle one team is terrible (the Nationals) while one team is great (The Mets).  I wish all the numbers didn’t say bet the Mets but they do.  I wish all the betting lines would forget what I just said but they won’t.  I wish I had a million dollars… wait… I can have it.. By growing my bankroll on this very obvious game.  You won’t get good odds unless you spot points… and in baseball spotting points is not a smart idea (check my last 3 Dodgers predictions).. They won, I lost.  The truth is we know how this game will go and you will have to find your own threshold for risk.  Mine is set at 2.5 runs… whatever Bovada gives me on those odds (Bovada has paid me out thousands more than I have put in, they are worth a look if you live in a state where… shhhhhh).  I'll leave that all up to you.

The Washington Nationals have won only 4 of their last 10 games… based on their record that was a good span.  They went 1-1 against the Oakland Athletics, 1-2 against the Cincinnati Reds, 1-1 against the Seattle Mariners, and 1-2 against the San Diego Padres.  The pathetic Nationals have been lifting all boats at seas above the hard tides.  They are a real disgrace after dismantling their World Series winner from a few years back.  If the owner(s) could have access to a time machine, they really would have kept everybody… they would have summarily understood that paying the money now is worth the merch and ticket sales later… just ask the Yankees, Dodgers, Yo momma, Yo momma’s momma, and your high school guidance counselor.

The New York Mets have won 5 of their last 10 games.  They are a great team. They are 2nd in the National league but they had a hard stretch. The Mets are top 7 in both batting and pitching… they rise to greatness when they pull a boatload of teamwork.  They added a half dozen guys to this season’s all-star game.  They went 1-1 against the Los Angeles Dodgers (with 1 left to play), 3-1 against the Colorado Rockies, 0-2 against the Yankees (little brother syndrome), and 1-1 against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Washington Nationals vs New York Mets Prediction

Our prediction for Saturday, September 3rd is… Mets 8 - Nationals 2

This feels like a scrimmage between the Varsity and the JV… except this JV has absolutely no prospects of making the jump to Varsity next year.  These are the “goof” games where the betting lines will pay you practically nothing unless you lay some runs ATS… Take the small money on a big moneyline bet and lay some 2.5 runs on a smaller bet.  You may hit both. Avoid the Over/Under… cause how exactly are THESE Nationals going to hit off Scherzer?

MLB Betting Trends

The Nationals are 83-163 as an underdog of +100 or higher the last 3 seasons (-31.1 Units).
The Mets are 30-9 as a favorite of -200 or more the last 3 seasons (+5.8 Units)

Key Injuries

Nationals: LF Y Hernandez (calf) Out ** SS C Kieboom (elbow) Out
Mets: 2B L Guillorme (groin) Out **

Players to Watch

Nationals: LHP Patrick Corbin, 5-17, 6.56 ERA, 113 strikeouts in 127 innings pitched.  1.76 WHIP.  “Corby” is 33 years old… he has no juice.  None of his numbers are any good.  He will get little run support as long as he wears this uniform.

Mets: RHP Max Scherzer, 9-4, 2.27 ERA, 148 strikeouts in 122 innings pitched.  0.93 WHIP.  Max is a demon.  The guy throws with a mix of anger and skill.  His nickname is “Brown Eye” because he has two different colored eyes… At least that is what we all hope is why.

Starting Lineups

Nationals: 2B Luis Garcia, RF Joey Meneses, 1B Luke Voit, DH Nelson Cruz, C Keibert Ruiz, CF Lane Thomas, SS CJ Abrams, 3B Ildemaro Vargas, LF Joshua Palacios

Mets: CF Brandon Nimmo, SS Francisco Flores, 1B Pete Alonso, DH Daniel Vogelbach, 2B Jeff McNeil, LF Mark Canha, RF Tyler Naquin, 3B Brett Baty, C James McCann,

Manager

Nationals: Dave “what do I do now” Martinez
Mets: Buck “we good now” Showalter

Weather Forecast

Mostly Sunny, 81*, Humidity 42%, wind 11 mph.  A hot September day in the city will give way to a hot September night … as always Yuck, get the pizza.
