Commanders - Eagles preview, analysis and prediction

Last week
Commanders: lost 20-17 vs. Vikings
Eagles: won 29-17 at Texans (Thursday night)

The Philadelphia Eagles are still undefeated and it honestly makes me sick. How in the world this team can acquire so much young talent and be about 3-5 years ahead of schedule? Of course it’s the Eagles, because why not? The Eagles will try for a 9-0 start when the Washington Commanders come to town and look to build off a strong few weeks with Taylor Heinicke at quarterback.

This won’t ultimately determine a playoff spot, but this game is huge for the Commanders to want to stay competitive in what’s already a stacked NFC East. After winning three straight, the Commanders are coming off a 20-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Heinicke threw for 149 yards and two touchdowns, but just didn’t have enough firepower to beat the 7-1 Minnesota Vikings.

“I like where the guys are: We’re playing physical, we’re running the ball physically,” coach Ron Rivera said Monday. “I think Taylor’s brought a little bit of a spark. It’s feast or famine at times with him. But he’s done the things that you need to do to give yourselves an opportunity.”

With Carson Wentz on the shelf for a bit, there will be no attempt at a revenge game against the team that took Wentz No. 2 overall a few years ago. But with Heinicke providing that spark, the charge for the playoffs is there for the taking for Washington. But they have to go through the last undefeated team in football and that’s no easy feat at this current juncture.

The Eagles improved to 8-0 in what was, surprisingly, a hard-fought win over the struggling Houston Texans. Philadelphia won 29-17 for its first 8-0 start in team history. Jalen Hurts threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns, while Miles Sanders was close to breaking the century mark with 93 yards and a touchdown. The Eagles definitely took their foot off the gas after going into halftime tied 14-14. This was a game Houston badly wanted, but now won’t hear complaints from the victors.

“I know it’s special for the city of Philadelphia,” Hurts said. “I’ve been 8-0 before and lost a national championship. Just take it day by day. Take it day by day. We haven’t accomplished anything yet.”

Way to speak to a fanbase that just got its heart ripped out by the Houston Astros, Jalen.

Prediction

I should want to fully believe in what the Commanders are trying to do, but given that it’s a home game for the Eagles and they should be able to handle this young team in front of the home crowd, I like where Philadelphia is going. Eagles by 17
