Commanders - Bears preview, analysis and prediction

Last week
Commanders: lost 21-17 vs. Titans
Bears: lost 29-22 at Vikings

Remember when Amazon secured the rights to Thursday Night Football and everything was going to be awesome? They got this whole production team and all of this talent and said, “we’re going to have this awesome product, please watch us every week because it’s going to be fun?” Yeah, and then the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts did … whatever the hell they did last week.

So how does a streaming network get things back on track? By having the … Chicago Bears take on the Washington Commanders? Because you follow up a game with seven combined field goals with a quarterback matchup between Carson Wentz and Justin Fields? That makes all the sense in the world. And I’m not bashing those in charge with this, but what a sign it has to be to go from that to this?

It also doesn’t help that both teams are coming in with bad offenses and horrible defenses, and both are coming off one-score losses in different fashion. The Commanders just went full commando with their pants down and loss 21-17 at home to the Tennessee Titans because Carson Wentz did a Carson Wentz thing. This is my shocked face, in which I am actually laughing. Wentz actually had a good game, throwing for 359 yards and two touchdowns on 25 of 38 passing. But in the game of football, it only matter what you do at the end of the game. And Wentz threw a horrendous interception to end the game.

"Guy made a heck of a play," said Wentz, who was 25 of 38 for 359 yards, including 76 on the final drive. "I just tried to squeeze it in there to J.D. (McKissic). Heck of a play. That was an emotional roller coaster. I thought we had six points when it left my hand and then the result. That was unfortunate."

Unfortunate is the Carson Wentz experience, when you think about it. He’s like the Tony Romo of our generation. Great game, but no one remembers you for the good. Hence why when coach Ron Rivera was asked what’s the difference in the NFC East right now, he responded with “quarterback.” That’s all you need.

And with the Bears, at least they have an excuse. The second-year quarterback is trying his hardest. The team around him is just awful to the nth degree. Fields threw for 208 yards and a touchdown and ran for 47 more. He also had a long touchdown called back because of holding. Outside of that, the Bears actually had a 22-21 lead but gave up 7 minutes of clock that capped off a 1-yard score for Kirk Cousins. Chicago had just 271 total yards.

"I think we took a step forward, for sure," Fields said. "A lot of teams in this league would have just laid down and stopped playing."

Prediction

If you have the chance to get a snack in-between moments of this game, feel free to get up and do so. This is not the ideal situation in which it should be taken into consideration, but this will be bad. Anyway, Bears win. Bears win by 10
