VT is playing their season opener here on Friday and this will also be their first road game of the college football season. They finished last season with a 6-7 record overall and were 2-3 in their road games. They were also 4-4 in their conference games and finished 3rd place in the ACC Coastal. They ended off their season with a 54-10 loss in the Pinstripe Bowl to Maryland. Their offense was averaging 361.7 YPG and 23.7 PPG while their defense was allowing 393.7 YPG and 25.3 PPG against them. Braxton Burmeister led the team in passing with 1,960 passing yards, Raheem Blackshear led the team in rushing with 757 rushing yards, and Tre Turner led the team in receiving with 675 receiving yards.

They finished last season with a 6-7 record overall and were 4-2 in their home games. They were also 5-3 with their conference record and finished in 3rd place of the Conference USA East. They ended their season off with a 30-17 loss against Tulsa in the Myrtle Beach Bowl. Their offense was averaging 372.9 YPG and 27.6 PPG while their defense was allowing 385.1 YPG and 27.8 PPG against them. Hayden Wolff led the team in passing with 1,933 passing yards, Blake Watson led the team in rushing with 1,112 rushing yards, and Ali Jennings led the team in receiving with 1,066 receiving yards.

ODU did not have a great season last year but they did finish with a good enough record to get into a Bowl game and they have a lot of their talent from last season returning this year as well. This is also their first year in a new conference and they will want to make a splash with their first game here. ODU was a pretty good team at home last season as they had a 4-2 record there and all of their leaders in yardage from last season are returning which will make this offense run a lot more smoothly. VA Tech did not have a great season last year as they had the same record as ODU, barely slipping into a Bowl game, and they were not a very good team on the road either. Even in their wins they were a very defensive team that did not score a lot of points but they have also lost a few of their starters from last season on this offense and now they will have some new guys in there figuring out the system in this first game. ODU played great defense in a lot of their games last year and they will likely keep that up here at home in this first game. This will likely end up being a very close game with 2 defensive teams who are not going to score a lot of points in this one. The best way to place a bet here is on ODU to cover the spread here.
