Virginia vs California Prediction

The current betting odds have Virginia listed as a 4.5 point favorite in this game according to Draftkings Sportsbook. Virginia has looked really good in their games this season with their 7-1 record overall and their 4-0 conference record which has them right near the top of the ACC. They haven't looked great lately with 2 really tight games after pulling off the upset win over Louisville, but they will be looking to put up a better performance here. They are off a 17-16 win over UNC in OT in their last one and only beat Washington State at home by 2 points the week before, but those tight games will knock some sense into them here. This is a tough road game for them with the travel, but they have a really good offense and they are going to bring their best effort to stay undefeated in the conference. Meanwhile, California has looked good in their games this season with their 5-3 record overall, but their 2-2 conference record has them right in the middle of the ACC. They are off a heartbreaking 42-34 loss in OT against VA Tech in their last one and they blew a lead late in that game. They have a really exciting young QB leading their offense, but they have been really up and down at times and that has come back to bite them in some games this year. They don't have a great defense either so they are going to give up points to this high flying Virginia offense and they will have to keep up on offense themselves. They have been really inconsistent though and this is a Virginia team that desperately needs a get right game after the way they looked in their last 2. The best way to place a bet here is on Virginia to cover the spread in this game.

Notable Quotes

“I would've kicked it. But hey, he's won a lot of football games. He's one of the best in the business for a reason. Obviously he felt good about the call.” - Tony Elliott after his team’s win against UNC in their last game.

“Football is a game for tough people, and you have to be tough for the entire game. That’s physically, mentally, emotionally. Having the ability to stay focused throughout the game is what we need to do. The No. 1 thing. The mood is not good, and it shouldn’t be. We shouldn’t be in a good mood after a performance like that. Virginia Tech has good coaches and good players. I don’t want to take anything away from them, but man, we have to expect more from ourselves than what we put out there tonight.” - Justin Wilcox after his team’s loss against VA Tech in their last game.
