What an electric start to the NHL season. So much parity, so many good teams through the first 10-plus games, you have every right to be excited! Of course the Vegas Golden Knights and Boston Bruins are heading the fun charge here as the top two teams in the league, because of course they are. But never count out the Avalanche, you know they're always going to be hanging around and will be eating worlds once they get everyone healthy. But this is a good time to be playing these hockey games, as well. Look no further than our own Doc's Sports on a 14-7-0 run over the first 30 days of the NHL season. Golden Knights - Oilers preview, prediction and analysis

Recent results
Golden Knights: won 4-1 vs. Coyotes on Thursday
Oilers: lost 3-1 vs. Kings on Wednesday

Jack Eichel. Connor McDavid. What the world has longed for and hoped for the minute the Vegas Golden Knights acquired Eichel. We’re getting it tonight with the Golden Knights on a quick road trip starting in Edmonton on Saturday night.

The Golden Knights were reeling after two straight losses but found a way to get back on track with a 4-1 win over the Arizona Coyotes at home on Thursday night. Eichel scored his 14th point in 10 games, Alex Pietrangelo had a 3-point night, and Logan Thompson was a fluky goal from a shutout. Phil Kessel also played his 1,000th consecutive game and I was reminded that I’m never going to do 1,000 of anything in my life. Maybe 1,000 of these game previews, but I digress.

"For the most part, we played a good hockey game. You got to play the game in front of you," Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy said. "In the second period, we got sucked into that game a little bit and got away from what we needed to do for a little bit. … I was glad to see the guys get it back. Then we started executing better. There was a pocket of execution in the second period that we need to learn from, and we did."

The Golden Knights were in need of a game like this after losing the last two in the way they did. And it’s not like the Coyotes are completely bad like they were before – they’ve been respectable to this point – but Vegas had a strong PK and a very good power play.

The Oilers, meanwhile, have not had the same kind of luck compared to their Pacific Division brethren. At 9-8-0, the Oilers have lost five of seven and are coming off a 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings by way of a hat trick from Trevor Moore.

Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl had their point streaks come to an end, and Zach Hyman scored the lone goal for the Oilers, who look absolutely nothing like the team that made the Western Conference Final a year ago in about 10 games in.

"I think it's definitely something that we've talked about is just starting on time," Hyman said after the Oilers were outshot 13-6 in the first period. "The shot clock can sometimes be deceiving, I think, but you know when you're down 10-0 on the shot clock, whatever the case may be, it means the other team's got the puck a lot.”

Prediction

It’s going to come down to what goaltender can make the most plays. Given the magnitude of the opponent, I can see Logan Thompson getting another start before going to Adin Hill in Vancouver later in the week. If that’s the case, he should absolutely take down Jack Campbell at the other end. Golden Knights win 4-2

Betting trends

Golden Knights are 15-5 on the road after winning 4 or 5 of their last 6 the last 2 seasons.

Golden Knights are 36-16 in the first half of the season the last 2 years.

Oilers are 10-14 at home after a loss over the last two years.
