Canucks - Golden Knights preview and analysis

Canucks analysis

The Vancouver Canucks will be making their way South to warmer weather to go against the Vegas Golden Knights. They'll be hoping to avenge themselves after a loss at home against the Golden Knights this past Sunday, April 3rd.

The Vancouver Canucks are currently holding on to the 5th place spot in the Pacific Division, but haven’t had much luck on the game front. Only winning three of their past ten games, the Canucks hope to break their three game losing streak and come out with a win.

Sunday’s game started off pretty rocky for Vancouver with Vegas scoring two goals in the first period. No points were scored in the second period. In the third period, the Canucks managed to comeback with a goal from J.T. Miller and one from Bo Horvat, tying the game.

Canucks defenseman, Tyler Myers, nearly scored with a close-range shot before time ran out in the third period, but Lehner forced an overtime by tapping the puck with his glove. The game resulted in a win for Vegas in overtime, and a third loss in a row for the Canucks.

“It’s like a broken record,” Miller said. “We weren’t ready to play and lost in overtime. Obviously we played our butts off for the second and third, but it’s too late. It’s like I’ve said a million times — you can’t do that in the league, it’s too hard.”

“Obviously it’s frustrating,” Horvat said. “We need every point we can get at this point of the season. Our start let us down again.”

The Vancouver Canucks are heading to Vegas hoping to make their next points count.

Golden Knights analysis

The Vegas Golden Knights are heading back home after a three game road trip up North, starting in Seattle and ending in Vancouver. All three games resulted in a win for Vegas, fifth in a row, and they’re hoping to add a sixth win to their streak coming back to T-Mobile Arena.

The Golden Knights have not had the best luck this season with all the injuries putting them 4th in the Pacific Division. Fortunately some of those injured are slowly starting to trickle back in. Among them is starting goalie Robin Lehner, who after a lower-body injury made 26 saves in his first start since March 8th this past Sunday against the Vancouver Canucks.

“He looked really sharp,” Pete DeBoer said. “We’re using the depth of our organization at almost every position, but particularly in net and Logan Thompson has come in and done a great job, but we needed Robin back. It’s been a long time and it was nice to see him come with an effort like that.”

Jonathan Marchessault and Alex Pietrangelo scored Vegas’ two goals in the first period of regulation. The Canucks came to tie the game in the third period, but Vegas ended victorious with Shea Theodore scoring 2:05 into overtime.

“Confidence is huge in this league,” Theodore said. “I feel like sometimes everything you put on the net is going in and then there are stretches where nothing is happening whatsoever, so it’s good to be in this stretch and hopefully we’ll continue it.”

Prediction

With the Vancouver Canucks just behind the Vegas Golden Knights in the division, Wednesday could be anyone’s game. Though the Golden Knights have proven they’re not getting out of this season without a fight with their five-game winning streak, that also adds more pressure for them to get that sixth win. The Canucks have just as much to lose as they still try and fight for a playoff spot. As the regular season starts to wind down, it’s more important now than ever for all teams to keep their focus. Golden Knights win 5-2

Betting trends

The Canucks are 10-8 following a division game this season.

The Canucks are 25-16 the last three seasons when getting revenge on the opponent after scoring three goals or more the rest reason.

The Golden Knights are 33-9 off a one-goal win over a division team in its history.
