What an electric start to the NHL season. So much parity, so many good teams through the first 10-plus games, you have every right to be excited! Of course the Vegas Golden Knights and Boston Bruins (and the New Jersey Devils?) are heading the fun charge here as the top two teams in the league, because of course they are. But never count out the Avalanche, you know they're always going to be hanging around and will be eating worlds once they get everyone healthy. But this is a good time to be playing these hockey games, as well. Look no further than our own Doc's Sports on a 14-7-0 run over the first 30 days of the NHL season. There's also ASA, Inc. posting a 12-5-1 mark through the first month. You know you can trust our champion handicappers to get you across the finish line with your NHL bets. Canucks - Sharks preview, prediction and analysis

Canucks: won 5-1 at Golden Knights
Sharks: lost 5-2 vs. Kings

Well that was a bit of an interesting one from the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night. Albeit the power play helped him a great deal against the Vegas Golden Knights, but the Canucks got a very nice win on Saturday in Las Vegas. And now Vancouver gets the opportunity to go on the road and try and win a second game in a row against the San Jose Sharks. I don't know if that means Vancouver is going to find its way to three power plays and look like the greatest special teams team on earth, but I guess we'll find out together.

Overall, it has been a very good run for Vancouver over the last five games. The only blemish being a 5-4 lost to Vegas on Monday, the Canucks have reeled off four wins in the last five games which includes victories over Colorado and Vegas on the road. And this one on Saturday against Vegas was a bit shocking, at least in my opinion. Because not only did Vancouver look very much like the team that we all expected at some point this year, but Vancouver also found a way to dominate Vegas in a 5-1 victory on Saturday.

And I don't necessarily mean dominate as in for 60 minutes it was all Vancouver. Vegas actually had a distinct advantage for the first 7 to 8 minutes of this game and then it's one fell swoop Vancouver just took over by way of the power play and special teams. If Vegas doesn't commit so many dumb penalties, maybe we are looking at a different situation with Vegas hanging on to win. But of course that's not how the NHL works and if anybody tries to tell you differently, they're not very smart.

But with Vancouver, things are starting to look up in terms of who's starting to get going. Elias Pettersson had two goals on Saturday, Brock Boeser had a goal himself on Saturday, and young goaltender Spencer Martin actually played very well and made some key saves early on to keep Vancouver in it and to eventually win the game. I for one, would find it gravely challenging to not use Thatcher Demko against Vegas, but save him for San Jose.

But suddenly with this new possibility, the Canucks actually look pretty decent going against a struggling San Jose team. After the sharks failed to capitalize on a 5-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators, things completely imploded for San Jose. Take a recent game on Wednesday against the Seattle Kraken for example. San Jose took a 3-1 lead early on in the game. Seattle went on to win 8-5 period now I'm no smart guy in math, but to be outscored 7 to 2 in the later parts of this game is not very good.

Then the sharks tried to bounce back later on in the week back home against the Los Angeles Kings, only to lose 5-2. San Jose was looking rather promising not too long ago, but now things appear to be a little more skewed in terms of San Jose’s actual development path.

Prediction

I am a little weary with Vancouver having to travel for the second night of a back-to-back, but given the fact that it is going to be Vancouver’s number-one goalie option in the starter's crease for this game, I feel a little bit more comfortable knowing that Vancouver could eventually get a victory and sweep this part of the road trip. Canucks win 3-1
