Canucks - Stars preview, prediction and analysis

The Vancouver Canucks will be playing the Dallas Stars on Monday, February 27 in Dallas, Texas.

The Vancouver Canucks lost against the Boston Bruins on Saturday, February 25 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver with a score of 3-1. The Vancouver Canucks currently rank 6th in the Pacific Division.

Brock Boeser scored, and Arturs Silovs made 33 saves for the Canucks (23-31-5), who lost in regulation for the first time in four games (2-1-1).

"They had a couple of shifts where they had us hemmed in and then after that I thought we outplayed them," Canucks forward J.T. Miller said. "They sit on the lead and they're one of the better defending teams, but I still think we had plenty of looks. We're really starting to get an identity, like a hard-work, no quit team."

Boston scored the first two goals before Boeser cut it to 2-1 at 7:24 of the third period, 10 seconds after Marchand hit the post at the other end. He shoveled a backhand past Ullmark from just above the crease after Conor Garland passed it out from below the goal line.

The Canucks played most of the game with five defensemen after Ethan Bear left 37 seconds into the first period after getting hit in the face by a deflected Matt Grzelcyk point shot. There was no update postgame.

"I was proud of the guys tonight," Vancouver coach Rick Tocchet said. "We had five [defensemen] right from the start, that's a Stanley Cup winning type of team, and we hung in there."

The Vancouver Canucks have won three of their last 10 games.

The Dallas Stars won against the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday, February 25 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with a score of 3-2 resulting from a shootout. The Dallas Stars currently rank 1st in the Central Division.

Wyatt Johnston scored, Jamie Benn had two assists, and Jake Oettinger made 41 saves for Dallas (31-17-12), which was 0-3-2 during the skid.

"Just a good hockey game. [Oettinger] kept us in it early in the game in the first period," Stars coach Peter DeBoer said. "They came out quick. We were a little slow out of the gate. It was a hard-fought good hockey game. I'm glad we got out on the right side. We've been on the wrong side too many times. We worked hard tonight. We deserved it."

Michael Amadio gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead at 12:00 of the second period when he redirected a slap pass from Brayden McNabb at the right post. Johnston tied it 1-1 at 14:02, jamming the puck into an open net at the left post after he kicked a backdoor pass from Ty Dellandrea to his stick.

Jack Eichel put the Golden Knights back in front 2-1 at 15:24 of the third period. He received a touch pass from Chandler Stephenson with speed at the blue line, warded off Joel Hanley, and tucked the puck inside Oettinger's pad at the right post.

Roope Hintz tied it with 38 seconds remaining in regulation, when he shot through a screen from the top of the right circle.

"I saw the goalie didn't see anything there. It was a good screen," Hintz said. "I just picked a corner and it went in."

Hintz's goal came after Jason Robertson dove in the neutral zone to break up a pass by the Golden Knights that would have set up a clean look at the empty net.

"Need a big play at a big time. I was pretty lucky, but you got to sell out in those moments," Robertson said. "Got a lucky bounce. Then we went the other way. What's more impressive is how composed we were in the final moments."

The Dallas Stars ended a five-game losing streak with a 3-2 shootout win.

The Dallas Stars have won three of their last 10 games.

Prediction

The Canucks are just in a bad spot with five days to go until the trade deadline. Do they blow it up? Has Linus Ullmark's goalie goal completely destroyed their confidence? Probably. That and the fact no one is scoring on Oettinger after that performance. Stars 4, Canucks 0
