Tulane - Tulsa preview, analysis and prediction

Last week
Tulane: won 38-28 vs. Memphis
Tulsa: lost 45-34 vs. SMU

Hi, it’s me, the official driver of the Tulane Green Wave bandwagon. Yup, indeed, I am in the driver’s seat leading the charge of this thing. Tulane is so much fun, and are every bit of deserving from being a top-20 team in the country. They’re even No. 19 in the College Football Rankings at the moment. Like, how incredible is this nonsense? I love it so much.

And now Tulane is in the perfect spot to try and run the table in the AAC. All they have to do is win these final four games, starting with the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Saturday, and they could really challenge for a New Year’s Six Bowl. And I’ll be heading that parade because Chuck knows how to party.

Of course, Tulane still has a lot to get through when it pertains to who is left on the schedule. UCF is the biggest threat right now given they might be the team to beat, along with Cincinnati, but if Tulane can get through the Knights at home, this might be the dream turnaround season Tulane has been looking for. But the Green Wave are coming off a 38-28 win at home against Memphis to improve to 7-1, jumping up six spots from No. 25 to No. 19.

Tulane put the poor Memphis group down early by going up 35-0 at halftime. Michael Pratt totaled two touchdowns, and Tyjae Spears ran for 125 yards and a touchdown while the Green Wave defense also did some serious work on Memphis quarterback Seth Henigan by picking him off twice. If you haven’t seen the environment that’s been provided at Yulman Stadium, you’re in for a hell of a treat when Tulane plays its final two home games this year.

"A lot of good things, but there are some things we need to correct," Tulane coach Willie Fritz said. "It's always just better to do it from a win than a loss."

I always wonder what teams who have exceeded expectations in this capacity really think. Tulane should be throwing a party all week Mardi Gras-esque for doing what they did, jumping out to a 21-0 first quarter lead and eventually going onto win. I get Fritz is saying the right things, but this Tulane team would’ve killed in years past to be in this position in years past. And now they’re favored against a Tulsa team that has been unable to play defense all season long, giving up 34 points per game. If this gets to a shootout in which Tulane is able to run the ball on them all day, Tulsa will not have a chance.

Because you give up 210 rushing yards a game to a team that’s begging for another hot performance on the ground and you’re really cooking with gas here. Tulane can’t afford to fall into a trap game in the second-to-last road game of the year, the last being the big one against Cincinnati. Either way, this is a huge final month of the year for this program to really make some noise, and you know most will be pulling for the Green Wave.

Prediction

Tulsa is coming off a 45-34 loss to SMU last week, a sign that Tulsa is one of the weak links in this conference because SMU has been weak all year. Tulane needs to accomplish this one to put itself in position to win down the road, and I think the Green Wave can do that. Tulane by 17
