Season Record

Raptors: 8-9, 11th place Eastern Conference
Warriors: 14-2, 1st place Western Conference

The Raptors have gone from NBA Champions to routine underdogs in just 3 NBA seasons.  They now pray to the basketball gods hoping this year’s rookie is the next big star (so far he is pretty good). Kawhi Leonard is gone, Kyle Lowry is gone, Pascal Siakim has been slid over to Center because OG Anunoby is out with an injury… and Chris Boucher has hit his ceiling.  The only bright spot is rookie Scottie Barnes though he is being played at the Power Forward when he could do more damage as one of the guards.

Steph Curry is still the greatest shooter of all time!  His Golden State Warriors collapsed when Kevin Durant left for the Brooklyn Nets and Klay Thompson tore his ACL all at the same time.  Stephen Curry remained great, but the team had little talent outside of Draymond Green left.  They rebuilt.  They drafted Jordan Poole, a shooting guard, in 2019.  They drafted James Wiseman, a big athletic Center in 2020 with the #2 pick overall.  They made some moves that brought them Small Forward Andrew Wiggins and power forward Otto Porter JR.  And in the last draft they landed Jonathan Kuminga at #7.  The Warriors are rebuilt and playing great basketball… not all the moves have paid off yet… but when Klay Thompson makes his return to the active roster… You can bet that a couple of the previously mentioned guys (Wiseman ansd Kuminga) will get traded for another all-star to make yet another Championship run.   The key is Steph Curry, the season's leading MVP candidate so far.

Recent Form

Toronto is 8-9 on the season, but 7-10 ATS.  They have logged 9 Overs and 8 Unders.  They are playing better on the road than at home.  They are 6-3 in road games.

The Warriors are 14-2 on the season, but 11-4-1 ATS.  They have notched 5 Overs and 11 Unders.  They are playing great on the road and at home.  They are 8-1 in home games.  There must be something in the San Francisco water.  In MLB the Giants put together a roster that wasn’t projected to win more than 70 games and rode it to 108 wins… The Warriors seem to be doing the equivalent.

Offensive Analysis

Toronto is ranked #11 in offensive efficiency.  Toronto is 21st in the league in scoring with 105.9 ppg.  They are shooting 44% from the field, 34.2% from three, and 78.8% from the free throw line… a little less but not that much different from Golden State… Oh and they only get 20 assists per game and aren’t winning on the glass most nights.

The Warriors are ranked #2 in offensive efficiency.  The Warriors lead the league in scoring with 113.9 points per game.  They are shooting 47% from the field, 35.7% from three, and 78.8% from the free throw line.  They are a juggernaut.  They lead the league in assists at 29.2 per game… that’s a tough mark to hit unless you have guys hitting from all over the court.

Toronto Raptors vs Golden State Warriors Prediction

Our prediction for Sunday, November 21st is…  Warriors 118 - Raptors 101
Golden State will win this one big.  OG Anunoby will be out and he is Toronto’s leading scorer.  Outside of him the Raptors look like a motley crew of kids with Pascal Siakam in the middle playing out of position.

Coaches

Raptors:  Nick Nurse.  Coach Nurse was on easy street when he won the NBA championship so quickly as the Raptors coach.  He got the job in 2018 and got a ring in 2019.  Rookie to legend in the blink of an eye.  Things have come crashing down.  Nick has a lot of D-League, G-League and European coaching experience to draw on… but you can bet he has never had to face having an NBA championship team wilt to a below the middle of the pack Eastern Conference punching bag.  How will he respond?... How will the team respond to him?

Warriors:  Steve Kerr.  Coach Kerr has rings as a coach… 3!... He has rings as a player… 5!... He has won the NBA 3-point shooting contest! His college (Arizona) retired his number.  He has been punched by Michael Jordan!  There is nothing in basketball Steve hasn’t accomplished!  He acts like it… you can’t worry him, you can’t panic him, you can’t shake him.  The hall of fame is calling and it’s for Steve Kerr.
