Maple Leafs - Devils preview, prediction and analysis

On March 7, 2023, the Toronto Maple Leafs will travel to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey to take on the New Jersey Devils in an NHL matchup that promises to be exciting. Both teams have had their fair share of struggles this season, with the Maple Leafs sitting in fifth place in the Atlantic Division and the Devils in seventh place in the Metropolitan Division.

The Maple Leafs are led by superstar Auston Matthews, who has been one of the most dominant players in the league this season. Matthews leads the league in goals with 44, and his scoring ability has been crucial to the Maple Leafs' success this season. He is supported by a strong supporting cast, including Mitch Marner, John Tavares, and William Nylander, who have all contributed offensively this season.

However, the Maple Leafs have struggled defensively this season, allowing the fifth-most goals in the league. Their penalty kill has also been a weakness, ranking in the bottom third of the NHL. To win against the Devils, the Maple Leafs will need to tighten up defensively and improve their special teams play.

The Devils, on the other hand, have struggled offensively this season, with their leading scorer Jack Hughes. Timo Meier scored hi first goal with the Devils in his debut over the weekend, an overtime win over the Arizona Coyotes.

Special teams could play a crucial role in this matchup, as both teams have struggled on the power play. The Maple Leafs have the league's 25th-ranked power play, while the Devils have the league's 28th-ranked power play. The team that can take advantage of their opportunities with the man advantage could have the edge in this game.

Overall, this game will be important for both teams as they continue to fight for a playoff spot. The Maple Leafs will be looking to gain ground on the top teams in the Atlantic Division, while the Devils will be looking to climb up the standings in the Metropolitan Division. Fans can expect an intense and competitive game, as both teams look to secure a crucial two points.
