Over their last ten games, the surging Toronto Blue Jays are 8-2 on the moneyline, logging 6 Unders, 3 Overs, and 1 Push.  The batters are hot, the pitchers are hanging in there, and they are taking down opponents. They are 4th in the AL East but their win-loss record has them poised to jump multiple spots if anyone falters.  They are 29-26 in road games but their recent streak says they are better than that and worth the ticket prices.

The Angels are 5-5 in their last ten, going 6 Unders and 4 Overs… sorta how they’ve been for the whole schedule… sorta how they’ve been for a decade.  I don’t know what transaction they made with the Devil to seemingly always have the best player in major league baseball but never contending… they should have asked for a buyer guarantee.

The Blue Jays are second in the league in team batting average (.265) 3rd in RBI’s, 6th in hits.  They have a trio of batters that get hot and are all hot right now.  The pitching is the drop-off.  They are 12th in team ERA, 19th in wins, middle of the pack in being scored on.  This club with one more ace and one more solid reliever would have already been out of the holoe they keep digging up from.

The Angels are 25th in team batting average (.253), 12th in RBI’s, 5th in hits.  On paper they look good until you remember that they have Shohei Ohtani!!... and a big part of these numbers were compiled by Mike Trout!!  What garbage is the rest of the roster made of that this team isn’t box office champ of 2021?!!   On the pitching front the Angels are 23rd in team ERA 4.68, 14th in wins, and 25th in being scored on…. Did I mention they have Shohei Ohtani?!!  The guy is an amazing pitcher too!!  What comes out of the bullpen every night?

This is a battle of 4th in the AL East vs 4th in the AL West, though they are two very different teams. Toronto is winning and moving up, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are losing and will keep sliding out.

 The Blue Jays will put lefty Steven Matz on the mound 9-6, 4.30 ERA, 99 strikeouts, 1.37 whip.  He has only had 40 career starts but his numbers hold up right around 4.30 ERA over the 40.  He is a consistent 30 year old who’s chance of success depends on the matchups.

The Angels will use Chris Rodriguez 2-1, 3.86 ERA, 27 strikeouts, 1.36 whip, as their starter.  Chris is green.  A 23 year old pitcher with only 25 innings pitched.  The numbers could go anywhere.  This type of guy facing Vlad Guerrero Jr is like giving the upper deck outfield bleachers a voucher for free baseballs.  Chris does however have the best ability of availability… he may click, but then again most likely not. 

The Angels will be missing Mike Trout.   That is half of the “having the two best players and nothing else” strategy going on in Anaheim.  They should be rudderless.
