Texas Tech - Kansas State preview, analysis and prediction

Barring a collapse of unforeseen circumstances, we should be seeing the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the top-10 of the AP Top 25 once they handle the Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday.

Texas Tech is more than deserving of being such after the week it's had. After defeating Kansas with a shorthanded group, the Red Raiders answered by upsetting the No. 1 Baylor Bears -- in Waco -- to end the defending national champs' 21-game winning streak.

The Raiders capped off that great week with a 21-point, business-as-usual victory over Oklahoma State at home. Kevin Obanor had 17 points on 6 of 8 shooting, and the Tech defense held the Cowboys to just 32.1 percent shooting in a dominant display.

Adonis Arms had only 13 points on 12 shot attempts, but Marcus Santos-Silva had a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double in just 17 minutes off the bench.

"I thought our guys played well," Tech coach Mark Adams said. "I told our guys after this game I am just as proud of this win as I was the other two and I mean that sincerely. This is a tough game. We played against some very good athletes and a team that's well-coached."

Tech has won five of six while also covering five of the past six. The prior bodes well against Kansas State, which has lost four straight coming in and is off to an 0-4 start in the conference. The latter, however, does not help. All but one of those losses for K-State has been decided by one score; the only matchup was at home against Texas, the only team ranked in the top 25.

The Red Raiders have not been far away from Lubbock this season, especially after winning all 10 games. On the road, they're 1-2 but are 10-6 against the spread.

"Coach Adams before the game really explained it well about how the last two games we played, and the feeling that we get in the locker room, celebrating with each other after we get a win," Santos-Silva said. "He said ‘Keep on getting that feeling, keep on going for it.' He always tells us to picture coming in off a loss and seeing how we would react and get ready by that, saying we don't want to lose."

That Oklahoma State game told me a lot about Texas Tech and how they handle the emotional adversity of coming off a top victory. It won't something that can be used for the rest of the season, but at this moment, I am a fan of what the Raiders have done and think they should handle Kansas State with ease even if they're on the road.
